A SECOND DIVISION The primary duty of any warship is to fight, and the men responsible for maintaining the fire power and the war strength -of the EP- PERSON are grouped into one division-the Second! fFormerly the Fu Division, Under Ens. R. D. Almen, second division Officer, the .Fire Controlmen, Torpedomen, Sonar men, and the Cunner's Mates are com- bined into the largest division on the ship. The Fire Control Technicians, under the out- standing leadership of Chief Barnes, are responsible for the maintenance and opera- tion of all fire control equipment-which in- cludes radar. Boasting many academy men fwhite hats- F. T. Schoolj, their rate is one of the hardest if not the hardest rate in the navy. These lads man the directors, plotting room, and the intricate equipment of the con- trol rooms during battle, and must be versatile in the operation and maintenance of the var- ious equipment. Sharp men for a sharp job! The EPPERSON has the distinction of being one of the original ASW ships. For the all important task of maintaining and operating ASW -batteries we have a ten man ordnance crew ofiTorpedomen, under the guidance of Chiefs Gverton and Schenkelberg. This band of fighters fnot loversj have their talents distributed over the Hedgehogs, .Depth Charges and K-Guns, Weapon Able and last and least the Torpedo Tubes.
