' ' 1 On the ship they are the uhandy men who do just about a little of everything pertaining I0 life aboard a Man,O'War. They are' re- Sponsible for the appearance ofthe ship, Side as well as out. They are the men behind the paint brush and paint scraper, behind the hose and swab, and the men behind the gun. His voice is the one that wakes youj in the morning andvputs you to sleep at night, p1l1S passing along the word all day long, In ad- dition to these daytime chores , they are called upon at any time of night to lend a hand with emergency situations that may arise. They may serve as Admiral's sideboys, boat crews, and numerous other special details. This division is divided into two groups. The forward deck crew, well stocked with rebels, is under the very capable guidance of Old Man Stevens. He spins his sea yarns on the focsle as his boys work away the day, pausing only to sip that cup of Bosun Mate Coffee.
