English leparlmmt Thru'we Dime food.” The English Department: A motley crew? By all means. From Montreal, Massachusetts, Texas, and good ol' Louisiana, new members of this year's English Department flocked to EHS from all directions. EHS welcomed four new faces to the department: Ms. Heather Anderson, Mr. Karl Frerichs, Mrs. Nancy Hickcox, and Mrs. Kay Walker. Along with the new faces, the department welcomed new ideas. Many changes are being made for next year's high school curriculum. In addition to Senior Composition and Shakespeare, new Junior and Senior electives were introduced including: Greek Literature and Myth, Folklore, and the Short Story. Also, the concentrated study of American Literature will now begin in the tenth grade. Although controversial, many teachers are trying to implement a new approach to teaching upper school English. The main objective of the English Department this year is to improve the students' writing skills to prepare them for college. Students read and analyze such favorites as To Kill a Mocking Bird, A Separate Peace, The Great Gatsby, and Anna Karenia. i rusi

I “I like Math Counts, with Mrs. Snelling, because you get to learn strange and obscure mathematical ideas such as base conversions and combinations,” said Nicholas Chremos. Ainsley Rolfs simply said, I learned to make a bird house in Woodworking which was a lot of fun. It was a good class because it was all hands on experience.” Commander Carter and Master Chief Thompson taught this class for the first time this year. 1 like watching the Mother Theresa movies in religion,” said Russell Longeway, Because I learned about other countries' religions.” In art we learned how to mold clay,” said Austin Earhart. It was a rockin’ experience being able to make our own designs and use our imaginations. Mrs. Snelling taught Little Animalcules which was a simplified science class. We got to dissect lots of stuff like starfish and worms, said Keith Barden. This provides students with an insight on high school classes and aids them in decisions concerning future selections of courses. 90
