English leparlmmt Thru'we Dime food.” The English Department: A motley crew? By all means. From Montreal, Massachusetts, Texas, and good ol' Louisiana, new members of this year's English Department flocked to EHS from all directions. EHS welcomed four new faces to the department: Ms. Heather Anderson, Mr. Karl Frerichs, Mrs. Nancy Hickcox, and Mrs. Kay Walker. Along with the new faces, the department welcomed new ideas. Many changes are being made for next year's high school curriculum. In addition to Senior Composition and Shakespeare, new Junior and Senior electives were introduced including: Greek Literature and Myth, Folklore, and the Short Story. Also, the concentrated study of American Literature will now begin in the tenth grade. Although controversial, many teachers are trying to implement a new approach to teaching upper school English. The main objective of the English Department this year is to improve the students' writing skills to prepare them for college. Students read and analyze such favorites as To Kill a Mocking Bird, A Separate Peace, The Great Gatsby, and Anna Karenia. i rusi
