Though Mr. Hallman's paperwork is overbearing he believes it is worth the reward he achieves. Helping students select colleges in the beginning and hearing of students' acceptances in the spring is quite a reward. Enjoy least? Alphabetizing detention slips, said Anne Kornegay, Dean of Students. This is a petty job required by the Dean of Students, but Mrs. Korne-gay's goals for Episcopal are not. From broadening intellectual development with guest speakers and assemblies to improving the spirit on campus, her job on the administrative staff is complete. I'd like to build a stronger sense of family in the upper school, said Father Robert Trent, new Assistant Headmaster. With his authority Father Trent longs to help changes occur and strives to build onto the excellence present at Episcopal. English leparlmmt Thru'we Dime food.” The English Department: A motley crew? By all means. From Montreal, Massachusetts, Texas, and good ol' Louisiana, new members of this year's English Department flocked to EHS from all directions. EHS welcomed four new faces to the department: Ms. Heather Anderson, Mr. Karl Frerichs, Mrs. Nancy Hickcox, and Mrs. Kay Walker. Along with the new faces, the department welcomed new ideas. Many changes are being made for next year's high school curriculum. In addition to Senior Composition and Shakespeare, new Junior and Senior electives were introduced including: Greek Literature and Myth, Folklore, and the Short Story. Also, the concentrated study of American Literature will now begin in the tenth grade. Although controversial, many teachers are trying to implement a new approach to teaching upper school English. The main objective of the English Department this year is to improve the students' writing skills to prepare them for college. Students read and analyze such favorites as To Kill a Mocking Bird, A Separate Peace, The Great Gatsby, and Anna Karenia. i rusi
