We also called it that because the heart is so important, said Mrs. Falgout. Students observed Health Awareness Week around the nation on Feb. 8-12. EHS children enjoyed a week of information on disease prevention and important health matters. School Nurse Betty Fal gout said that the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders were chosen to participate because they are still forming their habits, and it's easier for them to make choices. Beth Reames of Our Daily Bread, a local bakery, spoke on nutrition and provided health snacks for the students. Tuesday, Feb. 9th: Physical Fitness and Hygiene day. Becky Johnson from Baton Rouge's Heart and Fitness Center talked about fitness and exercise. Students made posters on hygiene and gave presentations. Self-Esteem 'The students concentrated on things that they CAN do well, said Mrs. Falgout. Wednesday, Feb. 10th, students sat down and listed 10 sports, hobbies or school subjects that they are good at. They worked on liking themselves for who they are. Self Protection The 6th graders learned to protect themselves against verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. They learned about being at homo alone and to call emergency 911. Said Mrs. Falgout, We taught them how to scream and believe me-they didn't need any help with that. Friday, Feb. 12, Mr. Tiberghien arranged Just Say No. Mary Ann Hofstad, the director of the adolescent unit at the TAU Center, spoke about drugs and other forms of chemical abuse. The Parents' Guild helped to spon sor the week's activities. They contributed a great deal of time and money. 41 1 A
