 Senior Retreat K tif Sternberg. Lisa Allen, Jeff Hastings, Melisse Campbell, Michelle Young, Katie Grotncss, and Jennifer Dann. £ enior Retreat, a three day U event, takes place in the fall of each school year. This year the Seniors ventured away from the usual Camp Hardtner, destined for Camp Abbey located in the deep woods of Covington. Camp Abbey, sits on the bank of a refreshing lake. The purpose of Senior Retreat is for Seniors and faculty to pause in a busy year and see each other as human beings rather than students and teachers, said Dr. Pitre. Senior Retreat creates class cohesion, said Mrs. Korne-gay, And transfers values and lifestyles learned at EHS into the next phase of life: adulthood. Sunday after dinner, the Seniors shuffled into the dinning hall. The tables and chairs had been removed, and the Seniors sat in a circle on the floor. The chaperones gave each of the Seniors a piece of paper with the name of an animal written on it. By making only animal sounds and acting like the animal (without talking) the Seniors had to find other Seniors making the same animal sound. The Seniors stayed in these herds during the activities throughout the weekend when groups were required. Father Trent also asked the Seniors a series of questions about their values such as: What is the last thing you would ever tell your spouse? What do you hate about the opposite sex? and When was there a time in your life when you showed courage or cowardice? The opposite sex is so stuck on themselves, said Allison Jones, They are so chauvinistic. The last thing that I would tell my spouse is that I tape the Smurfs every Saturday while I'm playing golf so that I can watch it later. Either my wife or I would probably be dying when we said our last words to each other, said John Irvin, So the last thing 1 would tell her is 'I love you. ' On Monday there was plenty of free time to enjoy the wooded surroundings of Camp Abbey. Some took advantage of the free time by walking to the monastery off Camp Abbey. The monastery was gorgeous; it was worth the five mile walk, said Katie Grotness. Others played volleyball, or basketball, or just got to know other teachers and Seniors. I made friends with a lot of people that I wasn't friends with before, said Michelle Woodham, I really liked the bonfire. I think that was the main event that brought the class together. Senior Retreat served its purpose giving everyone a much needed break and uniting the class. I felt much calmer when I left. It was a nice time to relax, said Allison Jones. 31 A

'The great man is he who does not lose his child's heart. — Mencius Two years ago. Father Hancock held a meeting of the Headmaster's Senate: the Student Life Council. At this meeting, they came up with the idea of a community service project to be performed by each class. Since 1985, each class had its own opportunity to get involved and make a positive impact on our community. Jay proudly introduces his new friend to others.
