The official Episcopal Graduates of 1988 display their well earned diplomas for all to see. The co-Valedictorians, John Campbell (1) and Ben-Hwa Hu (r) are caught in the middle of their speeches. Both speeches were walks down memory’ lane for the Class. Gayden Carr, the recipient of the 1988 Webster Cup, receives his deserved award from Fr. Hancock. Gcordy Walters (upper 1) gives a speech and dedicates the Class of 1988's gift to the school. They had the new sign (lower 1) made for the school. 181

 raduattoit May 20, 1988 The Class of 1988 assembled at St. James Church on Friday May 20, 1988 for their formal picture. The girls wore their white gowns and bouquets of red roses, and the boys wore their tuxes and boutonnieres. Afterwards, the Senior class walked across the street to First Baptist Church for their Graduation ceremony. At seven o'clock, the Seniors walked along the upper case balconies, down the stairs, along the aisles and into the choir loft, to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar. When the Class was seated, Fr. Cook gave a few opening sentences to begin the ceremony followed by Erika Gerdes' opening prayer. John Campbell and Ben-Hwa Hu each gave a Valedictory address of memories and hopes for the future. The Rev. James M. Coleman gave the Commencement Address for the Class of 1988. This graduation was extra special for him because his son was a class member. Fr. Trent gave out the Senior Awards. Fr. Hancock announced each Senior's name and Mr. Culbertson, The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, handed out each di- ploma. The Choir sang Praise Christ Alleluia, Friends, and A Closing Prayer, accompanied by Mr. Drew Shaw, for everyone's enjoyment. The jubilant recessional was to Rondeau by Morel. The Graduates fled out of the church with diplomas in hand to congratulate and be congratulated by friends and family. The reception took place in Fellowship Hall. Dr. Quaid had a surprise caricature composite planned for the Class. All of the graduates left the reception for a dinner-dance at Bocagc Raquet Club which lasted until one-thirty. The Casino at the Safer's house began at two. All participants received 20,000 in chips and a T-Shirt. There was Roulette, Black-Jack, and Poker. After the Casino, breakfast was served in the backyard. Everyone ate and counted all the chips they either won or lost. The auction began around four-fifteen and ended at six-forty-five, with each Senior winning a prize. The Seniors watched the sun come up and everyone went home with happy memories of a perfect ending to a perfect graduation. The Rev.
