Jo Ho Ho find fl Bottle If .. Pirates Punch? 5ixth Graders Search for The Treasure Of Gold ... The Henry Averys, the Black-beards, the Walter Kennedys, the Red Rums, and the Jack Rackhams all showed up for a fearful battle in the Greer Center on March 25, 1988, to win the treasure of gold. Frightful buccaneers, with their swords, wooden legs, beards, and eye patches, declared mutiny on the school unless the treasure be found. Each pirate team was made up of a sixth grade homeroom. During the preceding weeks, the sixth graders read Treasure Island and researched pirate stories and history. Sixth grade teacher Georgia Scobee soon coined the idea for a treasure hunt. Every day of that week, the sixth-graders received clues that would eventually lead them to the hidden treasure. Treats such as pirates punch, pirate stew, and cupcakes with skulls were plentiful and to the enthusiasm of the sixth-graders. On that Friday, they all dressed up in their best pirate attire for a contest at two o'clock. Each team composed chanties and created their own ships ensign for the event. At the end of Pirates day, Mrs. Sco-bee's first hour class finally discovered the valuable treasure of silver dollars wrapped in money bags, candy, and various trinkets. 1S8 Sixth grade pirates intently watch the Ashley Odom proudly shows off her other teams parading their flags. pirate attire for the long-awaited Pi- rates Day.
