'fljWIC 27 ALL IN! shouts our Com-) manding officer. I, along with 40 other cadets frantically scatter around in an attempt to ready ourselves for inspection. Where's the lint brush, I yell, but of course no one answers. Why is it that there are only two of those things to share between 40 people? I look around. In ten futile attempts, girls try to tuck all their hair up under their hats. Cadets busy themselves with last minute shoe shines, (a combination of spit and shirt tails) and positioning of insignia. Friends check friends for Irish pennants and lint. You'd be surprised at how much can be wrong with a uniform. FALL IN! he yells sharply. We quickly drop whatever we re doing and scurry to our place in line. We all know it's better to have an imperfect uniform than to be late for inspection. DRESS RIGHT, DRESS! Automatically 40 right arms snap up smartly to adjust spacing. This is it! Fifteen minutes of standing completely still. Stiff as a board. Just waiting. Only the sound of his spit-shined shoes thudding against the concrete can be heard as he advances one cadet closer to you. Ugh. The waiting is awful! Cadets pay tribute to those who have died for our country, at the Louisiana War Memorial in Baton Rouge.

It was supposed to arouse us! said a guffawing junior Chris Day, a member of the 1988 Troubadour staff responsible for the selection of published poetry and prose, It was about DOOM, DEATH . .. DESTRUCTION Chris made clear the need to avoid abstractions such as these, to be clear, and to give a message be it positive or negative. grew louder and louder. Except for Chris Day ... said Emily Manner, layout and design editor, He was the hardest worker and never missed a meeting. He also read most of the stuff others put aside because of length. Chris confessed to the accuracy of Emily's character assessment, and nonchalantly admitted to long hours during and after school reading manuscripts beneath the dimmed lights in Mrs. Wei-dig's room. Staffers were required to attend meetings every Thursday to consult on campus creativity. However, weekly meetings dissipated into monthly get-togethers as the fatal laugh of last minute Usually, at least three people read each manuscript before it can be selected for the literary magazine.
