Hill In most track teams, there are usually two types of members: those who perform well as individuals, and those who perform well with a team. Jody Smith is an exceptional athlete who fits into both categories. Jody experienced many personal victories as well as team accomplishments at EHS. In his four years of high school. Jody ran 125 races in the 60m hurdles. 1 10m high hurdles. 200m dash. 400m dash, 800m run. 800m relay, and the 1600m relay. Out of all of his races, Jody excelled in five events, breaking the school record in all five and the state record in one. He set the state record for the 800m run in his senior year with a time of 155.13. His other records were in the 200m dash (22.6), 400m dash (49.4). 800m relay (1:30.5), and the 1600m relay (3:24.9). Jody’s great performances helped the EHS team by gaining team points. In four years, he scored 393.25 team points, one of the highest number ever accumulated by one member. In his senior year. Jody scored 144.5 points, 22% of the total team points, and 00% of the EHS points scored at state. Jody was a great asset to EHS as well as a superb trackstcr. After graduating from EHS in May of 1984, Jody continued his career by receiving a track scholarship to LSU. However, due to injuries and hard luck suffered by Jody, the coaches at LSU were forced to redshirt Jody during his first year, allowing him four more years of eligibility beginning with the 1985-86 school term.
