Photo by M Hu. The Knights March to Victory in the Rain Homecoming ’84 proved to be an outstanding success: a time to choose friends for the Homecoming Court, a time to see old friends who have graduated, a time to cheer our football team on to victory, and a time to go to a dance with that special person. Mrs. Madeleine Campbell, Teri Hackett, and Aimee Weaver were among the hardworking people responsible for the festivities. Friday morning started with breakfast at junior Toby Massengale’s. Then each class finished last-minute details on their door decorations. The senior class had finished its memorable decoration the day before under the leadership of class president Ellen Crow. Meanwhile cheerleaders and Highsteppers warmed up for the pep rally, where the Highsteppers jammed to Prince’s “Baby, I’m a Star,’’ an enormous success, and the cheerleaders peformed to “What I Like About You,” by the Romantics. The moment of truth came at the very end of the pep rally with Fr. Hancock’s announcement of the 1984 Homecoming Queen, Alison Cohn. The electricity and excitement in the air outshined the rain’s gloom. With Friday afternoon free, most EHS students, including Queen Alison, flocked to the popular eateries, such as Friday’s and Bennigan’s. Before the game Friday evening, the school hosted an alumni reception in the library. Many of the alumni expressed feelings of old age upon returning to their alma mater. Despite continuous rain at the football game, students cheered their team to a very sweet victory. Of couse, the climax of the weekend was the dance on Saturday night, this year held at the Girls’ Gym, with music by Stone Jam. Senior English teacher Mrs. Susan Ragan commented that she enjoyed visiting with her former students and seeing them with her present students. This reunion of old and new proved to be both rowdy and sentimental. Although a few seniors joked that their favorite aspect of Homecoming was “No classes!” or “No practice,” most viewed the weekend as one more memory which will always be shared by the class of85. The next Homecoming for the seniors will be as alumni; it will never be the same. 19
