DECADE OF ACHIEVEMENT Only an image on paper in 1964, Episcopal High School became people when twenty graduates from St. james, sixth grade IUC! in Mrs. Webster's newly furnished classroom one August morning in 1965. The passage of time makes that day itself seem like a dream, but since then, nearly a thousand young people have sat, or wiggled, before more than a hundred different teachers. Now, a decade later, those who have invested time and money to develop our program and facilities, have generously and lovingly dedicated themselves to your future. A thought from Dr. Ralph W. Soclcman may inspire you as it has us: 'QA person lives as he invests himself in other lives . . . a man is immortal as he is useful. He lives as long as the thing in which he has invested livesf' , , i' The Rev. Ralph K. Webster ii if Q i ,. a wt David P. Harris Administrative Assistance Place Born: Arden, NC. As student body president, I was able to observe many aspects concerning Episcopal High School's academic and competitive spirit, I feel that EHS has come a long way towards being one of the finest schools in Louisiana. This year the STUDENT-FACULTY COMMITTEE took on the added role of judiciary body of the school and this meant newer and more challenging responsibilities. It has accomplished a great deal towards streamlining the disciplinary system of the school. Hopefully, we will look back on this as the beginning of a good thing. The athletic department and participants, suffering from the loss of most of the coaches from last year, has come back strong and reflects Episcopal's competitive spirit as the finest ever. As the year comes to an end, we should look back and think that possibly this year has been one of the finest years El-IS has ever had. J5' 3 4,12 Track marks both a beginning and an end forthe school life at EHS. lt falls at the beginning of the ACCOLADFS planning year and the final sports event of the school calendar. This dichotomy holds in one other area of track f the nature of the sport itself. It is one sport that, while a team total is kept and some events have members, most events put the individual on display to either Succeed or fail according to his own ahility. Witli only one winner per event land a host of losers, if you can call it thatl. the individual feels the intense excitement of his own accolades or the lonely dissappointment of loss before the eyes of all spectators. ln track, the individual has truly been on display. At Episcopal High no sport is emphasized less fof the three maior oncsj yet no team has done as well as the track team in district fist, last three yearsl or hi-district competition. The pre-season games actually served as incentive for five individuals to work as a team before district play. For the first season in the Knight's history, they heat two Quad A schools: East Ascension and Assumption. The Knight's record at the end of pre-district play was 14 and 7. The Knights faced much tough competition in the future. They were predicted to place third in district after Brusly and St. john, but the team felt there was only one team to beat, Brusly. Excitement picked up when we lost to Brusly by only three points, and won a close victory against U-High at the Assembly Center. 130 The second round held some surprisesg a slump hit the team and they were badly defeated by Brusly in their gym, and by St. john at home. St. john turned out to be the barrier between the Knights and a playoff berth. Everyone showed up for the game and victory was ours by four points. We were on our way to fight Chaneyville at Baker, which proved to be a tough Friday night match. The Knights fought hard, but came away with a disappointing defeat. The J-Vees played well all season, ending with a 16-4 record, almost as good as the Varsity record of 22-11. E.H.S. has been a member of the Society since April, 1972 and its primary purpose is to recognize outstanding scholarship for students in eleventh and twelfth grades. The Altar Guild and Acolytes are newly formed organizations which afford girls and boys a chance to participate in the religious program. By insuring cleanliness and order in the chapel surroundings, especially in the sacristy, they allow the clergy time to handle other functions. Halloween was the occasion for a Wear-A-Costume Day to raise money for the Players' productions. Many hours of rehearsing saw the presentation of a night of one-acts, THE WIDOW and A THING OF BEAUTY and a rare treat was provided by playwright Maurice Berger who wrote A THING OF BEAUTY when he met with the players to discuss his play and characters with the cast. Plans for the spring include a workshop production by the Speech class and hopefully a full-length play. The Players are attempting to bring the stages of the world to Episcopal High and to introduce all who are interested to our world - the stage. 143 Key Club The Key Club is an international organization patterned after and sponsored by Kiwanis International. For the school, we took on responsibilities such as hostessing parent's night in Sept., helping the Mother's Guild by serving at the November Supper Auction, and sponsoring a buffet meal for the coaches and referees at the annual invitational basketball tournament in December. Our fund-raising tasks con- sisted of a candied apple-popcorn ball sale in the fall, a spring fashion show, and a bake sale. On Dec. 21, our organization boxed Christmas toys for the Volunteers of America and on Dec. 23, delivered them to needy families. We hope through our pro- jects we have shown an interest to those living around us as well as to our own school.
