Many of the games this year, however, were heartbreakers in which the fellows were just two points short of a victory. After dropping close games to Lind and Moses Lake Ephrata broke into the win column by defeating Quincy in a Countv L ague game Ephrata startled the countx then with a ten point victorv over unbeaten Ritzville in a home game In a return game with the Broncos at Ritzville Ep irata was nudged out by that old familiar two points in a three minute overtime Ephrata then began to look more like a ball team in defeating Cashmere Grand Coulee and Leavenworth in close fought battles Incidentally Ephrata broke even with every team in the Wenatchee Valley but Wenatchee by winning and losing one game with each team Ephrata played the Wenatchee Panthers this year and did very well losing the first game by seven points and the second by only five points In the last scheduled game Ephrata defeated the second place County League team Coulee City Hartlme in a fast well played game In the Grant County Basketball Tournament to decide the representatives to the District Tourney at Omak things were looking dark for Ephrata The Spokane and Wenatchee papers were playing up Moses Lake as the unbeaten team of the County Hartline as a close second to Moses Lake and Ephrata as the dark horse in the tour nament However the facts were misleading and the Tigers with the personal back ing of all Ephrata defeated Quincy Hartline and Grand Coulee for the champion ship In the District Tournament Ephrata play ed Okanogan in the first game and after leading the entire time lost in the final minute The fellows tried hard to stay in the game but a final scoring spree by Okanogan was too much Considering the schedule which some imes called for three games a week and the Valley competition Ephrata completed a very successful basketball schedule BASKETBALL SCHEDULE 1947 1948 e They Lind Moses Lake Lind Quincy Peshastm Ritzville Cashmere Moses Lake Ritzville Grand Coulee Cashmere Dryden Peshastin 27 Leax enworth e They Quincy Wenatchee Leaxenworth Wenatchee Dryden COUNTY TOURNAMENT Quincy Hartlme Grand Coulee DISTRICT TOURNAMENT Okanogan W W 22 ,,..,i.,.,...rr.
