Supple' menting one semester of English, the course is designed to encourage the stu- dent to think logically, and to express,himself clearly and convincingly: as well as to develop an analytical approach to the problems which confront him. There are three major divisions in the Speech course: Public Speaking, Parliamentary Procedure and Argumentation, and lnterpretation and Drama- tics. By reason of a briet acquaintance with these phases of speech, the stu- dent is able to improve recitations., reason logically, and appreciate more deeply that which he hears. A direct result ot the Speech Course has been participation in the Ameri- can Legion Oratorical Contest and the Toastmasters Public Speaking Contest. Next year it is hoped that through this activity, we may produce more plays, participate more widely in contests, and give even greater opportunity for students to overcome that greatest of all school problems, speaking. 44
