We had the sense of being all- important, but the seniors soon made us feel our extreme youth. In our non-resident classmates we found friends worth having and keeping. We were proud to be repre- sented on the Boys' Varsity Football and Basketball teams by George Kiick. During this year Lucy Ream and Martha Gerhart won the championship in the Girls' Tennis Tournament. As Sophomores, we found school life the same except that lessons were harder and better behavior was expected of us. Our classmates were intently inter- ested in athletics-both football and basketball, Hi-Y, the Mountaineer, and the orchestra. The Sophomore girls won the Girls' Volleyball Tournament. With our able president, Richard Bishop, we chose our caps, emblems, and pennants near the middle of our Junior year. Although the third year assignments were more difficult, we found time for extra-curricula activities and other pleasures. At last the gay event, long anticipated, arrived-,the junior Prom. The girls gladly suffered from their trampled toes, and the boys, also, had the time of their lives, dancing in the gymnasium-delightfully remade into the semblance of a festive celebration hall. And too, there were those never-to-be-forgotten roller skating parties occasionally during the year, which left us ired and bruised but happy. In the annual operetta, 'fOh, Doctor!',, many of our number played important roles. September, 1935, found us Seniors, and ready for the busiest' and most important year of our high school careers. Some of our classmates were members of a championship football team and an excellent basketball team-both captained by George Kiick. This year also saw the organization of two new extra-curricula activities-the Etiquette Club, sponsored by Miss Mohler, and the Rifle Club, directed by Mr. Brubaker, in which many of us took active and stimulating parts. Alvin Wenger, Dorothy Gudikunst, Robert Gudikunst and Lois Trego served as principal characters in the operetta, t'Love Pirates of Hawaii. We were made happy and were grateful at the assurance that we, as alumni, will be able to attend future operettas in the new high scliool auditorium. After selecting announcements, having our pictures taken and publishing the HCloisterette, we prepared for Class Day and Commencement. So it was that we came to the end of four eventful and very joyous years, sad at leaving dear Ephrata High to go from 'tSchool life into Life's school. Foot Ball HE football season of 1935-36 brought many joys to us and many sorrows to our opponents. It was, by far, the most successful season enjoyed since the beginning of football at Ephrata High. This Success we attribute to Mr. Derr's coaching and the gameness and cooperation of the team. The latter Was led by Captain George Kiick, aided by such stars as Wenger, 4'Billy Kiick, Weaver and Schreck. Injuries kept UDave7' Gockley, a promising end, out of action, but the team, despite this handicap, emerged victorious. Only one game Was lostg we finished with the championship. The climax of the season was the crushing victory over Lititz, our traditional rivalshby a score of 49-O. Let's have a season next year wherein the blot of not even one defeat is Seenl' FOOTBALL gCORES Ephrata 12 ....,........,.......,.. F. 81 M. Academy Res. 0 Ephrata 12 ....... ....... Basket Ball ALL Hpepped up'l from the successful football fray, our basketeers began their season, determined to be even more successful than they had been with 'the pigskin. Again Kiick, assisted by Wenger, Mohler, Trask and teammates, carried the colors high. The first half brought a tie and play-off with Lititz. Our boys fought hard throughout the game but went down to defeat. More determined than ever, they went into the second half. All went well until they piayed Lititz when, again, they dropped a hard fought game-this time by one point. Even in the face of their failure to clinch the championship, We feel justified in calling our team a highly successful one.
