MUSIC MAKERS 12 BAND The Curtis Middle School Band is an ensemble open to all students in grades six, seven and eight who are advanced on their particular instrument. The band rehearses two forty-five minute periods per week. Students spend much of their own time in private lessons, practicing music and attending extra rehearsals to prepare for their concerts. The band performs many concerts during the year for a variety of audiences, such as, the Annual Winter Concert, a concert at Faneuil Hall, a performance at the Senior Citizens Drop-In Center, a yearly exchange concert, the annual Spring Concert, and a tour of the elementary schools. This year, the exchange concert is with the Dedham Junior High School. Selected students will perform solos and other chamber music at the Curtis Spring Festival. Some students participate in musical groups outside of the school program such as, the Northeast District Music Festival, the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, and the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. This year, the following students participated in the MMEA Northeast Junior District Music Festival: Samantha Costello, principal flute in Orchestra; Gwen Baker, first flute in band; Nisha Purushotham, third clarinet in band. These students were selected from auditions held in Littleton, including students from fifty-two different towns. The band is currently working to attend a state- wide music festival during the 1984-85 school year. wo . sy Sik oat 4 io e 7 yin Va’! iq ® bit ORCHESTRA The Curtis String Orchestra has had a busy and successful year beginning with the annual Winter Concert in December.
