VVith president Ronald Scott leading the way, the boys belonging to F.F.A. placed high in parlimentary procedure and their know- ledge of farming. One of the boys' duties was to prepare and serve a meal for the annual Dads' Nite. The boys' judging team consisting of Dave Archanibeau. Albert Mantel, and Paul Olson took the judging sweepstakes at the VVestern YVashington Fair at Puyallup. Another event was the Parent and Son Banquet. when the following were made hon- orary members for their contribution to the local chapter: Rex VValdron, Rick Silvestri. Fred Ronhaar. Dr. C. J. Rose, M. Owings, and Charles Kranick. These members received gold l .l .A. pins. In the spring the F.l .A. participated in the annual Dairy Show, This was an interesting and colorful event as the F.F.A. boys from linumclaw received many blue ribbons in the exhibition of their animals and judging. The first half, Bryd, state 4-4-0 champ, ran a punt and a kickoff back for 12 points. The last half, the Hornets dominated the play completely. Enumclaw 13-Bellingham 6 The only victory was against Bell-- lllgllillll. The Hornets operating' from the T and Spread completely baffled the Raiders. The Hornets scored twice in the first half with Hickenbottom and Bob Paterson doing most of the ball packing. Hicky broke his foot in the last quarter, but turned in an excellent game. It was the only game that the complete Hnumelaw team was together and the team played out- standing ball. Enumclaw 0-Puyallup 22- The Hornets operating' mostly from the spread turned in an excellent performance against Puyallup. The spirited Hornets were inside the nine yard line three times the first half, but failed to score. The Hornets, with Bob Paterson and Don Blakely doing the ball carry- ing, ran up twelve first downs in two and one-half quarters and then Lady Luck turned on the Hornets, and in two plays five boys were carried from the field. Enumclaw 7-Kent-Meridian 31- A completely demoralized team turned in the poorest game of the season at Kent-Meridian. Enumclaw 0-Aubum 18- Homecoming game was distressing because of the defeat, but it was the first time in eight years the Auburn Trojans defeated linumclaw. The Hornets turned in an excellent per- formance. Against an undefeated team in the state the game was played in a sea of mud. Enumclaw 7-Renton 13- The Hornets lost a heart-breaker to Renton. The Hornets led seven to six with one minute and twenty-five seconds to go. Fourth down they kicked to the fifteen and Thompson scored on an eighty-five yard run. Enumclaw 0-Sumner 6- The Hornets did everything well except scoring against the Sumner Spartans. The Hornets rolled up 16 first downs to 6 but were unable to score. Sumner won 6-0. Enumclaw 7-Highline 40- The Puget Sound Champ handed Rnumclaw its worst defeat of the year. The Hornets played outstand- ing ball but couldn't cope with the speed and power that Highline had. Enumclaw 0-Clover Park 12- Clover Park handed Enumclaw its seventh defeat, and Foster, the Kingco Champs, defeated the Horn- ets in their last game. However, Coaches Stricherz and Salsgiver used mostly sophomores and juniors the last half. The underclassmen were able to score and hold their own in the last two periods. The team showed good sportsmanship and worked hard, but couldn't eke out one win from the strong Puget Sound League. l'l.'Gl-YI' SOUND CONl l'lRl'lNCI2 VVon Lost Tie Highline 6 0 1 Auburn 5 O 2 Puyallup 5 l 1 Clover Park -L 3 0 Kent Meridan 3 AL 0 Renton 2 5 0 Sumner O 7 0 Enumclaw 0 7 0 Firrt Row: J. Enumclaw 42--Kent-Meridan 39 .. .. The first league game saw the Hornets come from behind to defeat a favored Kent team 41-2'39. Emunclaw 51--Highline 54 Highline scored 1- points in the last 15 seconds to snatch victory from our fighting Hornets at High- line. The game was see-saw all th.- way. Enumclaw 43--Sumner 34 The Hornets proved too much for the Sumner Spartans on the local floor. Enumclaw 42--Clover Park 39 The full court press worked to perfection for the Hornets as they jumped to an early lead over Clover Park and coasted to a victory. Enumclaw 42--Aubum 43 linumelaw with a nine point lead and two minutes to go saw the Au- burn Trojans, no. -I team in the state.. snatch victory from our grasp with a ,full court press that spelled victory for them. Enumclaw 42--Puyallup 46 Vvhen the Puyallup Vikings came to Enumelaw it was too much And- erson, as he scored 25 points to keep the Vikings in the game and forge ahead at the final whistle. Enumclaw 24--Renton 37 A great defensive game hetween two good teams is what we said of the Renton-Hnuinclaw game at Ren- ton. The off shooting of our boys cost us the victory. Enumclaw 42--Kent-Meridan 44 The Hornets traveled to Kent to make up a postponed game hut found themselves on the short end of the score. Enumclaw 49--Highline 53 One of the year's most exciting games saw the Pirates of Highline win in an overtime game against the Hornets. Enumclaw 43--Sumner 42 ln what was one of the closest games of the year, we defeated Sumner as .lim Kovacevich sank a foul shot with two seconds left on the clock. Enumclaw 54--Clover Park 63 The Hornets lost another close game to the VVarriors after winning in the first round. Enumclaw 54--Auburn 66 The Hornets were rough in their shooting during the entire gains. The score was 4-1-53 starting the fourth quarter, but the margin rc- rnained throughout. 61 Enumclaw 57--Puyallup 65 The fighting Hornets played one of the better games of the year against the Vikings of Puyallup. The Hornets led for the entire first half. but were unable to hit the bas- ket the last 16 minutes. Enumclaw 48--Renton 31 The Hornets finished the season in grand style hy defeating the league champions from Renton. A great defensive gaine was turned in hy all. Blakely, Yvarren. Jorgrensen. Franklin at one of the early spring turn-outs. Practicing their backhand shots early in the fall training program, anxious tennis players were eager to retain the championship crown, which Enumclaw has won for the past three years. After losing six lettermen, Coach Bob Campbell searched for prospec- tive players. Returning lettermen were Bob Jorgensen, Don Blakely, and Darrel Glover. Seeking berths left vacant by graduated seniors were Roberta Goodale, Lois Malatesta, Joan Han- sen, Arlene Ness, Marsha Bagby, Ron Jorgensen, Morrie Greenig, Bob Franklin, and Jo Ann Haw- thorne. Other prospective players turned out during the spring. ln the past eight years, Enumclaw has placed no lower than third. En- thusiasm was high among the play- ers to keep the championship.
