Sponsored by the Sophomore Class, the Formal had been scheduled for Dec. 13th. but had to be cancelled at the last minute because the band was unavailable Money had to be refunded for all tickets and the dance was rescheduled for January 17th. Even with these setbacks, the dance turned out to be a very enjoyable one. Also, this year the annual Basketball Dance was dropped from the regular schedule of activities, so that the crowning of the basketball royalty that usually took place at that dance was held at the Formal instead Mike Rodgers was crowned king, with Gaylene DeCoito reigning as queen. N1 Natina Picked to finish as low as fourth in the N.A.L., Dick Lamoureaux’s Hornets were given little chance to successfully defend their two consecutive league titles. Although the team was lacking in ability, it displayed the fierce pride indicative of all Lamoureaux- coached teams. In preseason contests, the team compiled a 5- 2 record. These games were marked by losses to Shasta and Paradise, and a victory over previously undefeated Placer. These three teams were all considered Northern California powerhouses. The league season opened with the year’s most dramatic game. Before a packed house, the Hornets upset the highly ranked Shasta Wolves. 55-33. On the following Tuesday, the team suffered its first loss, a 61-59 defeat at the hands of Yreka. After the Yreka game, the team lost its momentum and began to play erratically. When it was all over the Hornets had compiled a 10-4 record which gave them a tie for second place. It marked the sixth straight year that Enterprise finished third or higher in league play. Predicted to be the teams to beat this spring were Chico and Lassen, with the Hornets being a relatively unknown quantity in most circles. They started the season in smooth fashion with both varsity and jayvee teams trouncing Central Valley in a dual meet. From this performance it can be assumed that Enterprise track will improve on the whole this season. The varsity core consisted of many strong juniors such as Steve Brown, John Von Huse, Gene Randall, Curtis Rhyne and Bob Hicks. Adding experience were seniors like Gary Leonard. Alan Kenstler, Toby Ross and Scott Ward. Scheduled within the season are challenging contests such as the Redding City Meet and the N.S.C.I F. semi-finals at Thompson Field These should bring bright results for the hard-working Hornets.
