District Meads For the second time in as many years, unification in the Shasta Union High School District was defeated by voters. The trus- tees and superintendent, therefore, main- tained their positions in the district. In order to finance the renovation of Shasta College and the district salary re- visions, trustees called an over-ride tax election for June 7. This election, if ap- proved by the voters, would mean a 62- cent hike in taxes per $100 of assessed property. Perhaps the most significant change made in district policy was the adoption of a new grading system. Beginning with the third quarter of this school year, grades are issued on a semester basis. Quarter grades are issued only as progress grades, and only semester marks are recorded on the permanent record. SUPERINTENDENT RICHARD E. HAAKE SHASTA UNION HIGH School District Board of Trustees: Robert Caton, Rudy Balma, Dr. Kelly Pierce, Laurence Carr, William Beatty, not pictured. 18
