THE VESPA left to right: M. Starr, J. Espinosa, S. Butcher, I. Swindler, H. Andersson, V. Serpa, J. Dyer. Foreword It is with great pleasure that this 1958 edition of the Vespa is presented to you. Our sincere thanks goes to you the Students who have cooperated with us in its production. The 1958 Vespa is yours. You made it; we preserved it through word and picture. It is our hope it meets with your approval. 2 yearbook staff of 1958 3 the classrooms were almost empty . . . 4 In appreciation of her helpfulness, cheerfulness, and friendly interest, the staff affectionately dedi- cates to Mrs. Vera Knight this 1958 edition of the Enterprise High School VESPA. THE STAFF iper'mtendent’s less age u iih science and technology on the verge of Luring outer space, today's youth has a chal- Cvehich is more daring than perhaps has ever tjbefore The launching of satellites from the |and the very realistic plans for sending space L to the moon, ought to jar any apathetic Stu- ll into a realization of the possibilities of some |a new challenges and new frontiers, jean’s continuing progress calls for an increased ahouse of knowledge and experience. To un- stand the world about us today, one needs to be C, an amateur scientist; but achievement in the | of science is inadequate and dangerous with- fcorresponding development of moral and spiri- j values Science without a soul is much like pledge without wisdom. However well trained, [tnind cannot operate to a man's own good in a Htual vacuum. If our civilization is to survive, ders of men must serve with humility and good for the class of '58, there are many indications a good life ahead but there is no room for com- ity and blind conformity; the future calls for ring and imagination. To those who want ad- jure, the challenge is even greater than was the lllenge to Edison, the scientist, or to Lewis and irk, the explorers. fit is our hope that the graduates of our high liools will match the challenge of this age with a jaire and ambition to achieve their full potential, lining beyond high school offers opportunity for jh adventure in areas which only yesterday emed like a silly dreamer's dream. Jackson Price Principal’s Message Education worthy of the name has always been a medium for promulgating either the truth or that which by the best available standards appears as the truth. As such, it is concerned with principles and qualities that change slowly or not at all. Most laws of physics, for example, have en- dured without change for centuries, although the applications of these laws have been continuously refined and improved. Occasionally, even the laws themselves will be affected. Einstein's equations are examples of such fundamental change. However, the rapid and spectacular scientific progress that is producing such startling changes in our environment usually involves a few unchanging principles in an endless multiplicity of applications. Human values also change slowly or not at all. Integrity, responsibility, industry, patience and un- derstanding are much needed in all fields of en- deavor. Education here at Enterprise High, as else- where, must endeavor to meet this universal need. If it does so, our graduates will serve both them- selves and their country well. Charles F. Porter, A. Crowe, D. Phelp , M. Liddell, L. Warren, G. Almgren. The intramural basketball program is the setting for battles which rival in spirit and fury the varsity and junior varsity com- petition. From the many teams in each gym period emerges a victor, which in turn challenges the winners of the other gym periods. The quintet that comes out on top is the recipient of the Tin Can Trophy.
