PRI CIPAUS MESSAGE gh we can point to numerous accomplish- ments of individuals and groups among our students and faculty during the past three years, essentially our accomplishment as a school has been to over- come the problem of newness and to gain a posi- tion of honor and prestige for Enterprise High School. We have probably enjoyed more success than would normally come to a new school. During the next few years, however, we shall begin to face a different kind of problem. This is the problem of bigness. The new construction that is now under way will make Enterprise a big school. In a school, as in a city or a nation, the problems of living together increase in number and complexity as the population increases. As we grow into a school of a thousand or more students, we ,Q shall need more than ever before a student govern- ment that can act forcefully and with a deep sense of iustice and responsibility. There will be in a big school more factions, more arguments, more com- petition, and particularly there will be more people that we do not know. With the larger enrollment we may tend to neg- lect individuals just because we don't know them. Those individuals, in turn, may tend to become in- different about their school because they do not feel that they are really an important part of it. That is a serious danger in a big school. I hope that through your continued good faith and good deeds, we can avoid this danger so that we shall become not only a big school, but a good one. CHARLES F. The citizens of this district have again demon- strated their confidence in our schools by approving a 53 million bond issue. These new resources will make possible the expansion of Enterprise High School to double its present size. This has great signifiance to the youth of Enterprise and the eastern fringe areas. Expansion will make it possible for this young and new institution to develop into a school of the most desirable size. It is generally considered that a student body of 1200-1400 pupils can be com- petitive in sports and other school activities with other schools having much larger enrollments. Furthermore, the curriculum offerings can be as rich and complete as is necessary and desirable. Yet, a Mr. Denny and Mr. Price at work. SUPERIN TE DE T MESSAGE school of 1200 is small enough that there can con- tinue to be close personal relationships among the students and teachers, and opportunities for students to share in school activities will continue to remain high. Enterprise has already demonstrated that it can meet strong competition with Shasta and other out- of-district schools. Friendly inter-school and inter- district rivalry is wholesome and desirable. Now that funds are available to permit a building pro- gram to go forward, and as the campus facilities are developed, Enterprise, under the able leader- ship of Mr. Denny and the faculty, is destined to become one of the leading high schools in the north. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Mr. Thompson, Mr. McClung, Mr. Frisbie, Mr. Soeltzer M. Bowler was not present when this picture was token. The responsibility for fulfilling the policies of the Shasta Union High School Dis- trict is placed in the capable hands of the School Board. These men, each of whom has numerous other responsibilities, largely determine the direction that education is to take locally. The high standards maintained in the high schools and iunior college, plus the tremendous building program presently underway, testify to the industry of the board members. I0
