1975 ENCOALA Enterprise High School Enterprise, Alabama Volume XXXVIII TABLE OF CONTENTS Opening.........................................2 Student Life....................................8 People.........................................48 Orgademics....................................124 Sports........................................204 Closing.......................................236 2 Find Your Own Special Dream We all have a dream. Each human being in our universe has a goal to reach. It doesn’t matter how small or how large that goal is. EHS is no different. EHS is people, not books, not classrooms, not equipment; but people—working together, laughing together, crying together, dreaming together. Creating with your hands, learning a new piece of music, becoming head majorette, finding time to study, laugh or rest, are all successful completions of our day-to-day dreams. 3 4 Finally learning the EHS alma mater...hoping the homecoming floats will be built by parade time ... being elected to the homecoming court... playing the guitar... making new friends... passing the test... small dreams combined with large dreams in a school day. 5 Racing 70 yards for a TD-----creating a prize winning pep rally skit____finding time to laugh ... learning a career ... finding time to think ... just being yourself. Day to Day dreams suddenly become stepping stones to larger than life dreams that will follow you for years to come. 6 Student Life Homecoming Floats Have 1950's Flavor In keeping with the 1974 Homecoming Theme EHS Rocks with the 50’s, the float designs were typical scenes of that era. Again long hard hours went into the building of these floats. The night parade was witnessed by hundreds of Enterprise citizens. The student body turned out in mass to watch the floats become a bonfire. Steve Humphrys, Becky Jones, and Martha Jenks apply the chicken wire to the Senior float. Richard Williams and Bill Helms stuff chicken wire with the everpresent napkins. Robbie Heath takes a break during float building. 10 Sophomores Rope the Saints Cathy Howell and Joe Speigner get into the spirit of the 50’s theme. Bruce Quisenberry enterviews 50’s Homecoming Queen Sonja Lewis. 12 Senior Skit Wins Homecoming Spirit Stick A 50’s News Report put on by EHS Seniors won the skit competition at the Homecoming Pep Rally. I see the lights of the village Gleam through the rain and the mist, And a feeling of sadness comes o’er me That my soul cannot resist: A feeling of sadness and longing, That is not akin to pain, And resembles sorrow only As the mist resembles the rain. Come, read to me some poem, Some simple and heartfelt lay, That shall soothe this restless feeling, And banish the thoughts of day. Not from the grand old masters. Not from the bards sublime, Whose distant footsteps echo Through the corridors of Time. For, like strains of martial music, Their mighty thoughts suggest Life’s endless toil and endeavor; And to-night I long for rest. Read from some humbler poet, Whose songs gushed from his heart, As showers from the clouds of summer. Or tears from the eyelids start; Who, through long days of labor. And nights devoid of ease, Still heard in his soul the music Of wonderful melodies Such songs have power to quiet The restless pulse of care, And come like the benediction That follows after prayer. Then read from the treasured volume The poem of thy choice, And lend to the rhyme of the poet The beauty of thy voice. And the night shall be filled with music. And the cares, that infest the day. Shall fold their tents, like the Arabs, And as silently steal away. It’s a week of learning how to march, turn, play, twirl, and count to eight. It’s a week of helping others and learning from others. It’s days of meeting new people, learning new routines, and playing new music. Band week ends with a pre-show for the parents and friends. During football season the Band stays busy working on shows for the games. It’s not just the students that make a band show possible but also several parents working during the games. 191 Wildcat Band Adds Feature Twirler, Sharon Groom Drum Major Diane Kozik directa the band during a pep rally. Feature Twirler, Sharon Groom, practices several hours a day. Jeanette Phillabaum, Jonne Decker, and Debbie Watson wait for the go signal. The color guard precedes the band during the Veterans Day Parade. The Drum Corp performs during a half-time show. Band doesn’t end with football season, but rather branches off into two concert bands, except for a few parades and extra shows. Try-outs are held a few weeks later to divide the band into a Concert and Symphonic Band. The reasons behind this are to divide the band because it has gotten so large and to let the better students play more challenging music. Through-out the year the band marched in several parades—the Christmas Parade, The Veterans Day Parade, and the Homecoming Parade. The month of April involves Drum Major, Majorette, and Color Guard tryouts. The year ends with the awards presentation at the Band Banquet.
