In years past we have had limited faci- lities, but now the additional space aids us in expansion of the school system. Mr. Pridgen adapts well to his new office. Mr. Howell and Mr. Peavy discuss school rou- tine with teachers. 1974 Administration Announces Change for 1975 E.H.S. will have a new principal next year. Mr. Howell, principal for five years, will become assistant su- perintendant. Mr. Howell will be missed by all at E.H.S. His devotion, time, and effort on our behalf has had a great effect on the progress E.H.S. has made in recent years. The new principal for next year will be Thad Morgan. Judging from his performance as assistant princi- pal, we are confident he will be as successful as Mr. Howell. Mr. David Carter will become assistant princi- pal in charge of vocational studies. Several projects were undertaken, however. Student Council co-ordi- nated and supervised all the home- coming activities. They also spon- sored the movie “Little Big Man” which was a great success. Student Council was also responsible for placing American flags in all the homerooms. Students from each homeroom are elected to Student Council. The English Department lias com- pleted its second year under the new phase elective program. A student now takes each English course for one semester only, and has a better opportunity to choose those courses which appeal most to him individ- ually. Two new' courses. Mythology and Vocabulary Growth were added this year. The program seems to lie working well and will continue to improve as new' courses and ap- proaches are added each year. Paints School Mural Members of the EHS Art Club were among the advanced art stu- dents who painted a giant mural in the school lunchroom. The project was one to be done for a grade, but it soon became a labor of love. Students worked day and night to complete the mural. The faculty and administration of the Enterprise Vocational Depart- ment recognize the need for every individual to become competent in a chosen occupation or career. The staff of the Enterprise Voca- tional Department has increased to fourteen teachers, a vocational guid- ance eounseler and a vocational di- rector. He introduced many new ideas in- cluding a color guard, a new costume for the drum major, a new style of marching, and a new style of direct- ing. Rick Thompson was awarded a Military Academy ap- pointment and Vince Bonasso won an Air Force Academy appointment. The ROTC program was rated an Honor Unit with Distinction again tills year. We have won this honor every year for the 4 years it has been in existence. ROTC was rated 12th out of 206 schools in the Third ROTC Region. Our ROTC program was 2nd in Alabama out of 65 units. For the first half each team was held score- less. Late in the game Billy Waters and Floyd Smith ran the ball to the Eagle thirty-six, but seconds later a pass was intercepted, and ran in for six points by the Eagles. The 'Cats' lost their second game 22-6, to the Trojans of Troy. A Trojan fumble, re- covered by Jimmy Caldwell led to the ‘Cats’ only score. Booker T. Doster looks sad as he sees the final score. Cats Regain Their Footing With Wins Over Foley A look of relief overcomes Buster Carmichael as a new score flashes on the lxtard. Kennv Palmer dives through the Williamson tackles to gain yardage. 'Cats line up and get ready to put their plan into action. Ricky Jones and Randv Ramsey wait patiently for the toss. The mighty Wildcats came hack strong as they defeated the Foley Lions, 38-13. Billy Waters went thir- teen yards in the first quarter for the ‘Cat’s first score. Randy Ramsey ran for the next Cat TD, and the Lions also made six points. This brought the score to 12-7, Enterprise leading. Another Cat TD, and another Lion TD brought the score to 18-13. The Cats scored three more TD’s, two by Ramsey and one by Floyd Smith. This ended the game with the score 38-13. The taste of victory was sweet, as the ’Cats rolled in a 13-2 win over Williamson High of Mobile. Two more cat markers crossed as Randy Ramsey scored once from the nineteen and once from the five. Floyd Smith made it 28-0 in the third quarter with a 80 yard run. Seigle Thurman made the final score for the Cats, and Elba scored their 15 points in the last quarter. The Cats moved on to the Phenix City Red Devils and lost 14-7. The Cat’s only scored on a Water’s TD, and a Hope Kick 172 173 Enterprise Wildcats Sit The 'Cats came through with a Homecoming victory over Satsuma. It was an impressive show from start to finish. The 'Cats took only twelve plays to put the first six [joints on the board. The next score came in the second quarter when Flovd Smith ran in from the twentv-three. Two more 'Cat TD’s in the third quarter made the score 27-0. Satsuma scored late in the fourth Quarter. There was still time for another 'Cat TD. Final score was 34-6. Cats End Season Right With Smash Over Dothan The Wildcats began a winning streak as they defeated the Blount High School Leopards 27-6. This winning streak continued as they crushed the Selina Saints 40-21, in a very one-sided battle. To end up a 7- 3 season the EHS ’Cats tromped over the Dothan Tigers for the third year straight. A stadium of 6(XK) fans watched as the two teams battled to a scoreless half. The Tigers ran the first kick-off of the second half 97 yards for their only score. The Varsity Team played in Eufaula's Thanksgiv- ing Tournament but was defeated in their first game of the season with a score of 69-61. The high scorer for this game was Mickey Reed scoring 26 points. The Varsity and B Team traveled to Luveme to play the Ti- gers. The A” team defeated their opponent by a score of 69-56. The B” Team defeated the Tigers by a score of 49-30. The cats improved their record to 5-1 as they held off the Samson Ti- gers. Their record went to 5-3 when Dothan defeated them, out scoring the Cats in every quarter. In the B team game the Cats fought it out in a tough, hard-fought game against Elba’s B team. Although their final record of 6-9 was not great, it did show the results of a more unified ef- fort. This years' coach, Larry Eddins commented that the team had its had days and its good, but that he's hop- ing for a l etter season next year. Enterprise players wann up for the the big game. Kathv Walsh, Debra Ward, Carole Crampton, Loma Bruso and Lynn Dismukes. The boys tennis team consisted of Lamar Driskell, Larry De Ramus, Ronnie Averett, Mike Mackin,, Ronnie Lundsford, Glen Murdock, John Turner, and John Stanley. The boys tennis team played Ozark twice losing both times. They lost also to Dothan and Andalusia. They posted one win this sesson against Andulsia. The girls tennis team lost to Do- Disappointing than, Andulsia, and Houston Acad- emy. At the Jr. College Sports Day, Kim Minkinow placed second in sin- gles. Members of the 1974 Golf team were: Steve Metcalf, Shelly Strict- land, Rav Pappas, Glen Murdock, Rick Thompson, and Eddie Fergeson. Mr. Royce Reagan was the coach of the golf team this year. There were quite a few good individual golfers on the team. This is shown by the fact that the team sent three mem- bers to the State Tournament, and two of these placed in the top ten. These two were Joe Cassidy, and Keith Maddox. As a whole the team gained alot of experience this year, and had a fairly good season. They are hoping for a better season next year. Keith Maddox. Short Work Time Does Not Hinder Homecoming Floats Students worked long into the night to prepare the homecoming floats. With only an average of three days to complete them, the floats proved to be outstanding and proved to be the highlight of the night parade. Other schools are involved in homecoming parade. James Wilson rides to the rescue. 196 The court for 1974 consisted of Thelmanne Fleming as queen, Nancy Presson, Chery Richardson, and Loma Bruso as runners up, Beverly Williams as Senior attendent, Judy Bowdion as Junior attendent, and Pam Singleton as Sophomore attendent. Pam Singleton gives a friendly smile to the pa- rade viewers. 197 The 8th annua) ROTC l all was held January 24, 1974 at the Lake Lodge on Fort Ruckker. The receiv- ing line Started at 6:30 and the buffet dinner line started at 7:00. Dancing began at 8:00 with the “Ivy Broth- ers” playing. All in all the ball was a great success with quite a few more cadets and dates attending than in past years. It was a very enjoyable evening for all who attended. Col. Edgar is delighted at the chance to dance with his wife. 199 Long Hard Hours Go Into Hello Dollij ” This year’s all school play was Hello Dolly. It was the most am- bitious ever undertaken. A full band and chorus, dancers, actors, profes- sional sets were all used. Home Ec. made the beautiful clothes. Ag. con- structed the sets. The art dept, de- signed and painted the sets. Mr. Bryan studys script for possible changes. 200 Actors, Chorus, Band All Combine To Make The long months of rehearsal paid off on March 21, 22, and 23. Playing to packed houses Hello Dolly was a blockbuster. The audience thor- oughly enjoyed the combination of actors, dancers, chorus and band. At the end of each performance the play received a standing ovation. The time and effort put out by everyone involved was rewarded by the re- sponse of the audience. Flo Helms is superb as Mrs. Dolly Levi. 202 Officer’s Chib Hosts Senior Prom The Senior Prom was held at the Ft. Rucker Officers Club this year. Again the prom was open with tick- ets being bought. Over 200 seniors and their dates attended the affair. A buffet was served and “The Clique” provideri the music. Dancing went on until midnight and everyone en- joyed the evening. Kave Sessions and Ricky McLin were one of many couples who enjoyed the night. 204 Debra Donaldson Chosen As 74-75 Miss Enterprise At the annual Miss Enterprise Contest, Debra Donaldson was se- lected to be the 1974-75 Miss Enter- prise. Her court included Lori Gib- bons and Cheri Strickland. Cheri Strickland is 2nd runner-up in the ‘74- 75 contest. 1st runner-up was lx ri Gibbons. Junior Debra Donaldson is the new Miss Enterprise. 205 Entire Student Body Elects Mr. and Miss EHS Every year, the seniors nominate girls and boys from their classes for Mr. and Miss EHS. After the nomi- nations, the entire student body votes on these seniors. Mr. and Miss EHS are the two people, the student body feels have worked the hardest for our school. This years winners were Thelmanne Fleming and Mark Vosel. Both of these fine students are a credit to EHS. Mark Vosel waits, patiently for his turn to he photographed. Thelinanne Fleming looks for friends after Baccalaureate. 206 Tammy Gelbelt DAR Good Citizenship Girl Each year a student who has been involved in both school and commu- nity activities is chosen as the DAB Good Citizenship Girl. This year the winner was Tammy Gelbelt. Tammy was an Honor Senior member of the Honor Society, and in charge of the dancing for “Hello Dolly.” Tammy Gelbelt receives her diploma gradu- ation night. Tammy Gelbelt always considers study important. 207 Senior Work Day Nets Over $1(XX). The 1974 Encoala Staff sponsored Senior Work Day again and it proved to l e successful. Over 300 students participated by working in various places throughout the com- munity. The Senior reported to their job at opening time and worked the whole day. The money, which was over a thousand dollars, went to the yearbook for the publishing of the Encoala. Karin Ferguson assists a customer by getting him a pack of cigarettes. Sue Jones awaited those who entered the Dandv Dipper with a smile. 208 April 26 Set As Senior Skip Day On April 26, 1974 all seniors had an excused skip. The school was un- usually quiet as the seniors went their own way. The vast majority of se- niors did as seniors have done since prehistoric times—they went to the beach. Sun, sand, and suds were the order of the day. Those seniors who went to the beach were highly visible the following Monday. They all looked like beets. Debbie Fuentes enjoys a warming gulf breeze at PC. Karen Ferguson and Bill Lloyd wonder what the underclassmen are doing. Joe Ledbetter and Mark Brinton relax and en- joy the view. A good time was had bv all who made the trek to PC. Jo Strange arrives at the beach ready for fun and sun. 211 Seniors Buy Advance Tickets to Banquet The 1974 Senior Banquet proved to be a success even though advance tickets had to be bought in order to attend. On May 16 at 7:30 p.m., se- niors lined the halls of EHS, armed with steak knives and ready to eat steak. After songs by the ESJC Chorus, Mark Vosel and Thelinanne Fleming were announced as Mr. and Mrs. EHS. Donnie Vlessick and Na- thaniel Frazier presented the class history. Kim Minkinow presented the class prophecy. Mr. Fred Donaldson was the guest speaker to the 300 se- niors attending. Kathv Phillahauin and Mike Jones ponder their future destinations. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan listen to the 1974 C 'lass History as it is read. 212 214 ESJC Choriis Provides Entertainment Because of a lack of funds in the treasury, tickets had to be purchased for this year’s banquet. In spite of this hindrance, there was an excellent turn out at the affair. A good time was had by all. Hill Loyd and Karin Fergeson serve each other ice cream. Mark Vosel gives his speech after l eing an- nounced Mr. EHS. Nathaniel Frazier surveys the crowd. 215 EHS Holds First Honors Night EHS hold its first Honors Night on May 24. It was a hugh success. Stu- dent after student was recognized for achievements and or scholarships. Honors Night was held separately from graduation because of the large size of the 1974 class. By separating the Honors Program, the graduation ceremonies can l e kept shorter. Nathaniel Frazier for his work in journalism. Glen Murdock introduces Honors Night to the audience. Jane Ezell beams as she receives her nursing scholarship. 217 Scholarships Total Quarter Of A Million Dollars The scholarships awarded to the 1974 Senior Class amounted to about $250,000. In addition to regular scholarships, there were two military academy appointments and many ROTC scholarships. Rev. J.K. Thad Sconiers played the Processional while Elizabeth Vickers played the Recessional. Outside, par- ents and seniors mingled for pictures. Ken Spivey led the congregation in song. Jamie Mynard listens to the Baccalaureate sermon. 220 221 1974 Graduation Class Largest Ever On May 30, 1974, 332 Seniors graduated from Enterprise High School. After one rehearsal, the se- niors assembled at the stadium for their final act as students fo E.H.S. An afternoon shower did not stop graduation from being held in the stadium. At 8:00 p.m., the seniors filed into the field for the ceremony. 222 Karin Ferguson goes through practice with a smile. Mr. Baker gives last minute instructions at the end of practice. Mrs. Youngblood makes a final check of seat- ing arrangments. Mr. Baker and Mr. Carter lay down row assignments. Future plans are in Susie Mace’s mind as she receives diploma. Mr. Howell says well done to Pam Pridgen. Floyd Smith accepts diploma with well earned pride. Melinda Whitehurst dreams of future dreams and future plans. Cathy Wallace exclaims “It’s Over! His job was some- times lonely, sometimes frustrating. but always satisfying.
