The Homecoming Queen this year was Lyra Fran Boyd. Her attendants were Kim Maruisch, An- gela Fleming, Cassandra Duboise senior, Cheryl Richardson junior, Debra Donaldson sophomore. Cheerleaders blaze trail through town. Burt Bromberg adds his touch to the making of floats. Claudia Hendrix's work on Senior Float helps it win first place. Tonita Baston stuffs the Key Club Float. 14 Night Parade Reaches New High in Attendance. The Queen's Float was a highlight of the parade. An Enterprise policeman contains excited homecoming crowd. 16 jane Wesley bids homecoming crowd hello. Erica Gibson crowns the new 1972 queen, Lyra Fran Boyd. The second semester, they presented The Apple Tree which was entered in competition. Rollins Brunson was named best actor in our district. 24 John Conrad performs in World of Carl Sandburg . Eve (Carol Perez) and Satan (John Warren) dicuss the apple tree. 25 Carol Perez awakens as Eve. Seniors Earn Over $1,000. Senior Work Day Each year a day is designated as Senior Work Day. Participating merchants hire seniors to work for one day. In addition to providing work experience, the money raised goes to help pay for the 1973 En- coala. The response by the mer- chants shows clearly their support of Enterprise High School activities. Peggy Pierce shows pictures to customers. Steve Varney arranges (lowers for Enterprise Flower Shop. Joyce Reagin assists Dr. Collier in dental work. Seniors Migrate To Panama City On Skip Day Each year the Seniors get one free day away from school. This year was no exception. While most of the seniors headed for the Panama City Beaches, several seniors re- mained in Enterprise to work, study, and sleep late. Lyra Fran Boyd enjoys the sun at the beach. Brad Kittle wonders what's happening back at school. Sue Miller, alone on the beach has time to think. 29 Military Ball Huge Success The Annual ROTC Ball, held at the Fort Rucker Officers Club, proved to be a big success. ROTC cadets were treated to good music, fel- lowship, and a taste of the more enjoyable side of Army life. Receiving line welcomes all cadets and dates. 30 Everyone enjoys the dance music. jim Humphreys and Cheryl Richardson watch the dancers. This cadet and date are obviously happy. 3t Lynn Allen becomes S of M for work during Homecoming. Missy Conner puts in many hours of work on newspaper. Chuch Treece works very hard for the ROTC Drill Team. 32 Committees Select Nine Students of Month Each month a student who worked long and hard for the school was selected by a faculty-student com- mittee for recognition. Other Stu- dents of Month were: Nancy Aver- ett, Rita Barnes, Cindy Nicholson, and David Searcy. Mark Collins is recognized for his work in the band. The entire football team is selected because of its undefeated season. 33 Players of the Week Come From Football Ranks To recognize outstanding effort during a game one player was se- lected each week. These athletes were recognized during pep rallies and awarded a certificate of merit. Our regular season record of 10-0 testified to the fact that the whole team put forth great effort and drive. Bob Layton addresses Pep Rally. 35 DAR Good Citizenship Girl Marsha Jones was selected the DAR Good Citizenship Girl for the 1972-73 school year. Marsha was honored to receive this award for involvement in both school and community activities. Marsha was a Honor Senior, member of the Honor Society, and A JROTC sponsor. 36 Mr. and Mrs. EHS Mr. and Mrs. EHS were selected by the entire student body. David Searcy was chosen for his work in Student Council and FTA. Lyra Fran Boyd was chosen for her work as Drum Major for the band. She also reigned as this year's homecoming queen. 37 Prom Open Again For the second year the Junior-Se- nior Prom was open to Juniors, Se- niors, and their dates. Partly be- cause of this fact, a record breaking crowd of over 500 jammed the Ft. Rucker Officers Club. The Clique performed to the happy crowd who seemed to have a very enjoy- able time. Pat Kauchick toasts fellow students to a fu- ture of peace and happiness. Chris Grimshawe is awed by the sound of the Clique . Renee Owens brings John Spitz because Mark was busy. Missy Conner tries to hold off Henry Quisenberry Students and their dates enjoy outstanding food at the club. 41 Senior Banquet Sees Heavy Turnout The 1973 Senior Banquet was held in the elaborately decorated school cafeteria. The guest speaker was Congressman Bill Dickenson who spoke of the “good dying young . Andy Shelton and Alfonso Wesley added humor with the 1973 Senior Class History. The good-humored Mr. Dickenson did not shy away from Watergate. Delvin Phillips enjoys meal. Hal Carrington wonders if David Carmichael will share. Everyone attending enjoyed themselves. Dan Pridgen has trouble with a sliding steak. Jane Wesley and friend entertain guests. 42 Rev. Wells Speaks At Baccalaureate The 1973 Baccalaureate Service was held on May 20. Cathy Wall- ace and Pam Crumpler played for the seniors entry and exit. Special music was provided by the First Baptist Youth Choir. Rev. Weath- erford delivered the invocation. Rev Wells gave the sermon. Rev Shuler delivered the benediction. DeVane Phillips discusses plans for after the service. Lyra Fran Boyd and Burt Bromberg await the Start of the service. Rev. Graduating Class Largest Ever After completing finals. Seniors sweated out final grades. Practice for graduation was held in the sta- dium. One could see the anticipa- tion in each face. Stadium practice was for naught, for as usual, rain forced graduation into the gym. Practice in the stadium proves to be fruitless. Mr. Howell and Mr. Baker discuss gradu- ation exercises. Karen Swartz prepares for graduation ceremonies. 46 47 48 Rain Forces Graduation Inside Severe thunderstorms forced grad- uation inside again. An overflow crowd watched the largest gradu- ating class ever march into the gym. Scholarships were awarded and honors given. Then came the magic moment . . . The awarding of diplomas. No one knew each senior's thoughts, but one knew where they were looking . . . ahead. For some, graduation is waiting. Harold Stephens gives Valedictory Address. Mr. Howell presents Emanuel Sconiers with his diploma. 51 Enterprise Gets New Superintendent The Enterprise School System was very fortunate to get Mr. )ack Rut- land as the new superintendent. Mr. Rutland's fresh outlook and concern for the students opened up a great new era for Enterprise High School. Mr. Alfred Peavy joined the High School Administra- tion this year. Along with Mr. How- ell and Coach Morgan, Mr. Peavy has helped guide EHS to one of its most productive years. Mrs. Welch receives all incoming calls to Enterprise High School. Mr. Morgan and Mr. Peavy discuss mutual problems. Mr. Rutland re-evaluates the Enterprise School System. Mr. Howell and Col. Lunsford discuss plans for a rifle range. 54 55 Student Council Sponsors Movies College Career Day help students decide on future academic plans. Movies help provide funds as well as helping students relax during the year. The officers for this year were pres. David Searcy, Vice Pres. Joe Donaldson, Sect. Tres. Kim Min- kinow. Lynn Allen relaxes during discussions. 56 Guidance Supervises Honors Program Providing counseling in both aca- demic and non-academic areas is the most valuable service. Mr. Prid- gen, Mr. Crampton, and Mrs. Garth have other duties which keep them busy. They are: the Honors Program, schedule changes, schedules for the next year and co-ordinating College and Career Day. Mr. Crampton checks on the Honors Program. Scheduling plays important part of counsel- ing activities. Counseling doesn't stop with Students. Mr. Pridgen is always ready to help any student. Jr. Sr. Honor Society Formed The Honor Society inducted 51 new members this year. Because of the size of the club it was divided into two sections. Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. C. Projects of this service club included a Boys Ranch road block and a clean-up day. When com- pleted the library will be able to ac- comodate twice the books and students. Meanwhile the library's regular duties continue. Books are checked out and in. Research work is done and magazines are read. The library staff was always ready to help the students and the faculty. Terri Long catalogues some new books. Karen Rickman relaxes in the library. 64 65 Library Club Prepares For Expansion The Library Club moved all books so that workmen could complete the new library by September. The library's atmosphere aids student's study habits. 67 Language Considers New Curriculum A Success A total revamping of the Language department resulted in a wider va- riety of subjects. Students and teachers both reacted favorably to the new schedules and courses. Pam Smith delivers a book report. Mrs. Becky Baker was named Speech Teacher of the Year. Marie Hendley reviews lecture notes. 68 69 Foreign Language Repairs Lab During the summer the foreign lan- guage lab was serviced in order to provide maximum use by the stu- dents. Mr. Bauer, the French teacher, utilized materials that the students could learn from, and that they could also enjoy. Mrs. Cous- ins, the Spanish teacher, brought to class her personality which enabled students to have good time while they learned. Mrs. Cousins observes a student at the board. Kim Dietsch and Marsha Clark are two more seniors. 76 Yearbook Adds New Feature This year an exciting comic book was added to the '73 Encoala. David Searcy slaves over faculty layout. 77 Debate Sweeps State Tourney The 1972-73 school year provided another sucessful season for the EHS Debate Team. The debators captured many tournaments and trophys. At Spring Hill College, the EHS debators had five first place winners and won the first place sweepstakes prize. During the Uni- versity of Alabama Tournament they won seven state champion- ships and three scholarships. In or- der to raise money the debate team sponsored an all school talent show. Dramatics Club Helps With Speech III Plays Although there was no All School Play this year, the Dramatics Club played an important role in the plays performed by the Speech III classes. The ex- cellent teaching staff provided all the knowledge needed to use the information in any career they choose. A speaker from Auburn's Dept, of Chemical Engineering told students the qualifications and job openings in that field. Joe Speigner and Terry Barrett disect a fish in Biology. Pep ral- lies were more interesting this year because of many different skits presented by the cheerleaders. • To pay the expenses of their many activities the cheerleaders sold raffle tickets for a rifle and had many other money - m.a king projects. Jim in- timidated the Ozark offense by blocking two punts and running them both in for touchdowns. Floyd Smith scored one touch- down for the offense and Andy Shelton kicked the extra points, making the final score 21-0. First Perfect Season Since 1956 The Enterprise Wildcats tramped the Troy Trojans in the second game of the season. Late in the first quarter, Floyd Smith raced thirty- four yards for the first Cat TD. Two Bill Hope field goals and an inter- ception by Billy Foreman led the Wildcats to a 20-10 victory. The third game of the football sea- son proved to be the Wildcats' toughest so far as they battled back from a 10-0 deficit to beat Au- burn's Baby Tigers 13-10. Bill Hope's field goal in the second half started the Wildcat scoring. On the next offensive series Foy Doster broke loose and sprinted eighty glorious yards for a touchdown. A conversion by Bill Hope and a field goal late in the third quarter topped off the Enterprise scoring. Our fantastic defense held Au- burn's rushing yardage to a nega- tive seventeen yards. Wildcat season was resumed as 'Cats defeated the Williamson High Lions 36-7. Rick Nixon and Bill Hope combined their talents to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Getting Wildcat points proved an easy task for Bob Layton as he scored two consecutive 'Cat TDs. Andy Shelton and Foy Doster got into the act by scoring the last two touchdowns of the night. When Enterprise and Elba met, it was a match of the unbeaten. The first half was virtually scorless until fifty-three seconds were left in the half when Wildcats came up with a 19-0 lead before going to the locker room. After the half the 'Cats finished off the Tigers with the final score 32-8. The Central Red Devils came to Enterprise hoping for a win, but ended up going home in defeat. A game of close calls and well played football, showing the skill and dex- terity of our outstanding team squeezed the 'Cats by the Devils with a 14-12 victory. The Cats seemed to squeeze by the Devils with a 14-12 victory. The second half saw no scoring action, just close calls and well played football showing the skill and dexterity of our out- standing team. This win moved Enterprise up to third place, in the 4A ratings. Bill Hope kicked two field goals late in the first half to ac- count for the first six Wildcat points. Floyd Smith scored from two yards out, and Philip Thomp- son made the extra two by sweep- ing around the end to make the fi- nal score.
