I-lOGUE'S FIFTH GRADE Reading, 'Riting' and 'Rithmetic '--1965-66 During this school year our class has become quite interested in mythology. The comparisons which one might draw between mythological characters and human beings are absolutely astounding. The class has decided that we have at least three young Hermeses fMaster Tricksters and Messengersj. These three are Dudley, Timmy and Christopher. The English class, being quite precocious, immediately understood the meaning of the word alliteration and dubbed Trey--Clay Caroland, Classroom Casanova. Let us not forget our handwriting experts. John's handwriting has improved now, but for a period of time it was labeled hen scratching and John tagged himself a dumb cluck. Let us tum from our sharp fifth grade wit to more serious subjects and remember our visitor from Guatemala's talk which proved to be quite enlightening. Also, our trip to Cheekwood shall long be remembered because of the excellent educational exhibit about Christmas Trees of the World. 55

HALE'S FIFTH GRADE Our class never eamed a 100 in quietness , but many of the people in it hadfutfgfu ents in other fields. David was able to spread his folders over the largest area of the room, but even he cou1dn't beat Cal for the title of Messiest Desk Keeper. Jan managed to hurt herself more than every one else, especially in the sprained ankle de- partment. Chip was able to sit by sprawling all over both parts of his desk. Doug F. could make any place his desk was into a junk yard with his many things hanging from it. We found our two new people could outspell the Ensworthites , and were often the last two left standing in spelling bees! Everyone learned a lot of new words, or at least carried them around on vocabulary rings. They had the words in their hands if not in their heads! Although there are many funny things we'll remember, we did learn about our American neighbors. Most of us can define the parts of speech in our sleep! Every one of us can spell communication. The year was very good as a whole. 57
