In Memoriam Foreword How shall we define the Spirit of Ensley High School? It is a Spirit, almost indefinable, dwelling deep in the heart of every Ensley student who seeks and finds. It is aSpirit found inthe serenity that comes from worship, the challenge that comes from striving to attain the honorable, the wisdom that comes from gaining knowledge, the security that comes from knowing teachers as friends, the glory that comes from participating in sports, the joy that comes from seeing beauty, and the relaxationthat comes from spending moments in leisure. It is seen in the setting sun, the first star of evening, the fog-filtering lights on a misty night, the flowers of spring and the leaves of autumn, and the am- ber glow of the steel mills at night. It is heard in the music drifting from the choir room, the singing of the Alma Mater, the shouts of encouragement at the football games, the laughter and the tears. It is felt in the warm friend- ships, the gab sessions, the genuine concern of one student for another, the teamwork in the classes, in the morning watch and Christmas concerts. It is found in all things an Ensley student loves. This is the Spirit of Ensley as we see it . . . Miss Lulie May Lockard We A 3 ' F ' i v t 3 -1 sc, 1'--t W' Wi ' -h if inf.
