Sllll lil ln this age of the atom, Enka High School is privileged to offer an up-to- date and varied science program. While eighty-two percent of the high schools in the United States offer nei- ther chemistry or physics, Enka has both. Besides the more advanced studies, our curriculum contains classes in general science, biology, which is required of all sophomores, and senior science, for students taking a general course of study. A main event of the year for the science department is the annual sci- ence fair. Last year Margaret Green brought national recognition to Enka by winning third place in the National Science Fair with her project on lichens Mr. Cathey's general science class shows how to Find direction without a compass. Janet explains how to prove a theorem to some classmates. Two freshmen demonstrate the art of paper folding . Mathematics is one of the most impor- tant departments at Enka High School. Through teaching students to increase their reasoning ability, it has apractical appli- cation for everyone. Thus it is a course of study needed by all students, not just those who are planning to enter college or students interested in a mathematical career. Enka High offers a variety of mathe- matical course ranging from General Math I to Solid Geometry and Trigonometry and Algebra Ill, which are actually on a col- lege level. class learns about the slide rule.
