After days and weeks t l1ard work. tl1e play finally whipped into shape, and on tl1e evening of lfriday, Novetuf her 5. it was presented at tl1e liducation Building. The play opened in the XYickHeld home where we met Aunt Betsey Trotwood. Peg- gotty. Paarkis, Nir. Xkiickheld, hir. Dick. and Doctor and Annie Strong, all highly excited over tht- arrival of David Comwerhelcl, who had now begun his very successful career as a novelist. Agnes XN'ickl'ield came to greet llllll. and after Illt' others l1ad left. she asked l1in1 what l1e l1ad heen doing. XVhen l1e i11- formed l1er tha l1e l1ad heen at work on l1is most important novel. she learned tl1at it was to he an autohiography. XVith this set- ting as a background. the play itself hc-gan and unrolled hefore our eyes. switching hack and covering in succession all tl1e important ' e a' e t '. T e entir' se 1 act took place in the XVickHeld house he ore shifting hack to Illt' Copperlield home in London in tl1e third act. Grownfups as well as children and studen's enjoyed Davidls struggles as a small hoy, l1is determination to an1ou11t to something. and finally tl1e way l1e foiled tl1e villainous Uriah Heep. Of course Davidls friends. hlicawher. Aunt Betsey. Lllltl hir. VVickfield, also l1ad n111cl1 to do with l1is success. Sprinkled tliroughout tl1e play were touches of comedy as well as tragedy and romance, all adding to tl1e interest of tl1e play. W'ilkins lviieawher with l1is ungainh' appearance and inuuense, complicated voeahulary fairly oozed importance- -and fun for the audience. hir.
