Joseph L. Kenney This year marks the retirement of Mr. Joseph L. Kenney of the History Department. After receiving an A.B. Degree from Holy Cross in 1919, Mr. Kenney taught in the following New York schools: Iona Prep — New Rochelle St. John ' s College — Brooklyn After teaching for a time at the Newman School in Lakewood, N. J., Mr. Kenney returned to Boston where he earned his ED.M. from Harvard University in 1928. Appointed to the English High School faculty in January, 1934, Mr. Kenney, on his retirement, will have completed forty-three (43) years of teaching. He coached baseball, football, basketball, and boxing in New York Schools; a former member of the N. Y. State Umpires Assn., Central Board of Football Officials; Eastern Mass. Assn, of Approved Basketball Officials. He was instrumental in making basketball a major sport in Eastern Canadian Colleges. The “Kenney Basketball Award” is given annually at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia in his name.
