Iftt flfcemortam It is with sorrow that we note the death on Decem¬ ber 13, 1958 of Mary A. Hagerty, a loyal and de¬ voted secretary. Miss Hagerty first came to Eng¬ lish High School in 1930, and until her retirement in 1957, was a valuable and beloved figure. JVriljur Efrans A profound sadness and deep sorrow settled on our school when we learned of the death, on Oc¬ tober 12, 1958, of Arthur L. Evans, a teacher in the Science Department since 1932. Mr. Evajis was a graduate of English High School, Class of 1917, and of Boston College in 1922, where he had taught before coming to English High School. In his years of teaching, we all came to know him as a man among men whose sole concern was the welfare of those entrusted to him. He never dodged a responsibility or refused to take on a difficult task. We, the class of 1959, express our deepest sor¬ row at the death of a conscientious and devoted teacher. Master Emeritus Last spring saw the retirement .of Mr. Maurice Fran¬ cis Murphy, an esteemed member of the English De¬ partment. Mr. Murphy was a master of our school from 1917 until his departure in 1958. Mr. Murphy received his A.B. degree from Tufts College in 1915, and did graduate work at the following schools: Harvard, Boston University, Bates, Boston College, Univ. of Vermont, and Boston Normal School. Upon his graduation from Tufts he was appointed a master at the High School of Commerce in Boston, Mass. He remained there until 1917 when he came to English High School. Mr. Murphy’s loyalty to the school was unquestioned. His sincere devotion to his profession, his deep concern in the welfare of the pupils, his great love for tennis, and his various dissertations on things in general will make him long and fondly remembered by all.
