American Relay Champions i 8 , •b- — ' ; JF--N u—- - - — f-- V iA L H i Vk 1 Left to right: Coach J. Clifford Ronan, Eugene Ellis, William King, George King, William Tatum, Head Master Walter F. Downey. As announced in the press of the nation, the E. H. S. Relay Team won a magnificent victory at the Pennsylvania Relay Carnival held on Saturday, Ap¬ ril 29th. The members of the team are now recognized at the two mile relay champions of the United States. With weather conditions the worst in forty- two years, through mud and rain, they completed the two miles about 100 yards ahead of their nearest rival, a high school from New York City. They brought athletic distinction to their school, their coach, and to themselves. Our top six half milers made the trip along with Coach Cliff Ronan. They were Gene Ellis, George King, Bill King, William Tatum, George Campot, and Ed Allen. As a token of their feat, the school received a large plaque along with a beautiful sterling silver cup, which will be retained by the school for one year. The first school winning the relay event for the third time will retain permanent possession of the cup. It is our sincere hope and desire that in sub¬ sequent years, E. H. S. may be fortunate enough to earn the privilege of re¬ taining the cup.

FOOTBALL Climaxing a brilliant season with a 20-0 rout over arch-rival Latin school, this year ' s blue and blue squad finished with a 7 win 2 loss record identical with that of last year ' s team. The annual jamboree exhibition was the first stop on a ten game schedule in which we smacked a game Roslindale eleven to the tune of 14-0. We opened up the season with a High School of Commerce eleven and all went well as the boys chalked up a convincing 34-7 affair. A trip to Groton proved to be worthwhile, and we tumbled the gentlemen from the private school by a score of 27-0. The Technicians from Technical proved to be no exception as they went down by 18-12. We were matched with a scrappy East Boston team the following week, with the contest receiving much speculation and publicity, as both clubs en¬ tered the fray undefeated. A sea-saw battle all the way, finally turned to be one point too many for the Double Blue, as the Easties proved victorious by the slimmest of margins, 13-12. We went back to our winning ways and beat a weak Memorial team in the season ' s biggest trouncing, with the final score- board reading 38-0!! Trade received much of the same treatment the follow¬ ing week and was deeply outclassed 41-12. The Dorchester contest followed and was another wildly publicized affair. However, this time our charges came out ahead by a well-earned 19-7 count. An underrated B. C. High team proved to be our second defeat of the season as we were caught on an off day and badly succumbed 37-13. And now for the big one — the turkey day special — the traditional Latin encounter. The game was covered as usual by all the local scribes, aired on the radio, and for the second year in succession televised. The Latins couldn ' t do much, as they met one of the finest defenses that the Blue and Blue had rigged up all year. Once our offense began rolling, the game became a one-sided contest. When the smoke had cleared, and the final whistle had sounded, the score read E. H. S. 20 — Latin 0.
