Simple enough. I could hear my buddies snoring throughout the classroom. And after a week or so we were really buckled down doing nothing. Soon a much-awaited day arrived, as class rings were to be given out. These were like sceptres to kings. Our seniority was complete. Incidentally, how did your ring fit you.? TOM NAPOLEON claimed his was just a wee bit too tight. Yes, it barely squeez- ed down over his ears. The next day he was happy again, for he had wrapped two rolls of adhesive tape around the band of the ring, and now it fits perfectly. One day, as we were being dragged into school by Mr. Wilson, we noticed several seniors standing around with machine guns. What was the meaning of this? Only class elections. We were herded into the assembly hall to hear all the suggestions for smoking rooms, elevators, swimming pools — - in fact e erything was suggested but class officers. Oscar award for comedy goes to cur great benefactor, DAVE SOKOL. al- though even till to-day no one knows whether he meant it or not. Most enlightening! ! Our congratulations go to President BILL OHRENBERGER, Vice-President BOB DI- GREGORIO. Secretary-Treasurer BOB FEENEY, and Executive Committee Men DAVE SOKOL and BOB MAHN. As long as we ' re still talking about events early in the year, let ' s take a look at the old pigskin record. Although sparked by Captain SYL ' ESTER, DICK BUTERA, and PHIL SEMANS, our team had a mediocre season including a miserable game on that crisp Thanksgiving Day. But let us forget that and look forward to the future. Just about this time of year the E. H. S. Record appeared. This worthy periodic- al - periodica], that means a publication which appea rs spasmodically, about as often as a sober man on Dover Street — was of its usual excellence. Lest we forget some of our hardships let us bow our heads one moment in memory of the new physical education program. Boy, some of those days were mightly cold as we changed clothes in the locker rooms. Can you imagine row on row of icicles with goose pimples doing deep-knee bends in the drill hall? Restless times now, as we waited for the Christmas recess. We had long since mark- ed every desk at which we sat with our names, girl friend ' s names, dates, and miscellaneous gyp sheets. We had already mastered the art of cutting classes and of making paper airplanes fly straight with a piece of chalk as ballast. There was no more fun in torment- ing the teachers, for they were already worn ragged, and at certain times they could be seen praying that school would be over soon. The longing for the Christmas holidays had intensified to such an extent that it seemed as though the shows in town changed daily. But time soon passed by quickly. As a matter of fact the only person who passes consistently at Montgomery Manor is Father Time. Then we were finally out for two weeks of more rest. Once again hockey, basketball, and track found their places in the sports world. Our hockey team did terrifically. Not until the final day of the season did we lose to our nemesis, Latin, and with that loss went the citv hockey title (those blankety blank Latin- ites). The big guns of the season were BOO BROWN. PAUL QUIRK, JOE LOU- SARARIAN, and TOM MARA. In basketball we won the divisional championship with a 12-2 record, but lost the city championship in the finals. The whole team was inspired by th e excellent playing of Captain DIXON. HERB WILLNL N, and GAS RILEY. English ' s track team, always a power in track circles, had a good season led by point-getter REGGIE ALLEYNE. Bright spot of the running season was the relay team composed of REGGIE ALLEYNE, EUGENE WASHINGTON, GERRY O ' LEARY, and LEW PROUT. These boys won the Relay City Carnival Trophy sponsored by the Trade High School Alumni. Once again back to our shennanigans. Just about now each senior found himself very short on money, what with one dollar for this fund and one dollar for that fund (bless Doc ' s little heart). This was soon overcome by selling pink elephants on the corner of Dover and Tremont Streets. It was about this time of year the fair City of Boston decided to take X-rays of all high school students. How many of us cut classes for three days with the excuse that we were having X-ray pictures taken? When BOB HARTIAN got inside the truck he was a bit disgusted because there was no pretty nurse to hold his hand and smooth his brow.

SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Seated (left to riyht) ' icc-Piesidcnt Robert Di Orejiorio, President William H. Ohrenberger, Jr. Standing (left to right) Executive Committee Members Robert R. Mahn and David L. Sokol, and Secretary-Treasurer Robert L. Feeney SENIOR YEAR They refer to blue Monday, but alas and alack They never mention Thursday — the day we go back. At last our senior year. Now as we approach Montgonnery Manor with graying hair and faltering steps, we thank our lucky stars that our homerooms are on the first floor. Those elevators might not work this year. But since there are a few senior rooms on the second floor, we, trampling several sophomores and freshmen under heel, race into school in Older to find the location of our base of operations. This was the first and last day we were ever seen racing into school. It was usually vice-versa. One disappointment of the early season was caused by the fact that no longer could we hear that gallant horseman of Room 231 rallying to the roundup once more. Yes, Mr. Council had finally retired. Ah yes, it was a happy day as we renewed our acquaintances with old friends. After a few days of red tape, school finally began in full earnest. How do I know school began. '

As LEN RIDINI stepped up for his picture the attendant asked him whether he was livin,g or not. Needless to say, after the attendant had been taken away to the hospital with a fractured leg, dislocated shoulder, and general confusion of the brain. X-rays were resumed. As the season was quickly fizzing out, there came upon us that great event we had all been dreaming of -- the E. H. S. Farewell Prom. And off we were to trip the light fantastic. Remember how you had to swim home that night? I had always wondered if it was at all possible to land a seaplane on Tremont Street. That night I had my answer. It rained most of that night. One word of thanks to one of our alumni mem- bers, bandleader Larry Green. Great job, Larry!! We were now well into spring. Ahhh spring, when a young man ' s fancy turns to thoughts of — - baseball. And with the coming of baseball we, as seniors, come to the end of our ropes (ughh, not so tight around the neck). With STAN KOFFMAN ' S one- hitter against Brandeis High the baseball squad gives us hope of a good season. That remains to be seen. l hat ' s all, boys, the printer is waiting for the copy. So make your own notes for the rest of the year. And for those who desire the sequel, may we ask you to send your names in catalog order to the author in care of the Mattapan State Hospital for Mentally Deficient Morons? He will gladly send you the news about ' 49 as it occurs between now and our looth re-union. CHEERIO KEEMOSABES GET EM UP, SCOUT. HI-YO, SILVER, AWAAAAYl!
