June, 1949 Zo S. M. $. Men of 1949: In a particular way the Class of 1949 has been associated with the 125th Anniversary Celebration of this school. Many of you entered in the year 1946, and you are graduating in 1949 when the final ceremony took place. Duruig your graduating year we dedicated the English High School Memorial to the Veterans of World War II. As years go on and as you analyze conditions in the country and in the world, this Memorial will increase in significance. In eternal bronze are represented the four fundamental freedoms upon which this Republic is based- Congress shall make no law respecting an estab- lishment of religion, or prohibiting the free ex- I. FREEDOM OF WORSHIP ercise th ereo f. 2. RIGHT TO PETITION 3. RIGHT PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE 4. FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND OF THE PRESS Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people peaceably to assemble. Congress shall make no law abridging the free- dom of speech, or of the press. E. H. S. is a school where all boys have deep respect for each other regardless of race, creed or color. This is a basic need for strengthening and uniting America. FROM MANY LANDS THEIR FOREBEARS CAME IN SEARCH OF FREEDOM. IN ITS DEFENSE THEY FOUGHT. MANY DIED. GOD GRANT THAT THEIR SACRIFICE MAY MAKE STRONGER THE BONDS THAT UNITE ALL MANKIND.
