You Lads of Nineteen Forty-two go out into a chaotic world, a world of machines turned into deadly instruments of destruction, an insane world which has no care for your comfort, or for your happiness, or for your future. Yet none of you bewails this ' ' sorry scheme of things, or seeks to avoid realities or refuses to face the issues. Some of you already have de- cided to enlist in a war which for you may start in Iceland or in Nor- way, in Africa or in Australia. Your older brothers are already on their way. Some of you may go to Germany or to Japan; but some of you will remain at home, for ten must be left behind to equip one at the front. But here or there, whatever your task, we hope you will perform it well. In war or peace, as your service reflects your pride in your old school so will English High be proud of you.

Sheepskin clutched tightly in hand. Jour years of high school behind him and a vista of future ahead — the English High School graduate goes down the aisle and out into the world. Down the years and through the generations, always appreciating the hoards of knowl- edge painstakingly acquired in years of scholastic endeavor, may he for- ever reflect the honor and glory of his Alma Mater.

With liigli purpose and firm res olve . . we are leaving our Alma Mater in time of war. However harsh and sorrowjul the future, it will also be great and glorious. Although dark days may come, we know that brighter, grander days lie ahead. Freedom and opportunity for all will survive and its saviours of today will be its beneficiaries of tomorrow. We leave English High School developed in mind and body by a system of education founded by free men for the perpetuation of freedom, strengthened in our faith in the democratic way of life, and con- firmed in our determination to de- fend and preserve it.
