€€ ODiro Class Prophecy TIME: JUNE 1957 And now for twenty years throughout the land, The name and fame of EngHsh ne ' er has died, For glory always seemed to greet that band, Which Thirty-Seven knew and hailed with pride. We cannot turn but that we face the light Of some new triumph that the class has won. The journals of the times forever cite The deeds that we ' ve so masterfully done. We take our daily paper, and we read Of Totten, Colder, Rados who debate And make the Senate walls again resound With eloquence that knows no peer nor mate. So much for that. We turn the page and find That Saad and Simon both in math now reign, And problems that have been unsolved for years To them are naught but objects of disdain. We note that Burns and Amsler hold the rank Of admiral, while Nelson, Cohen scheme As gen ' rals, to protect our shores from foes. John Dugan, Lipsitz, Albre are supreme When brilliant social functions are the rule. Again we turn a page, once more we read. Piazza, Sheehan, Miller are the tops In business, and in everything succeed. Finance is next, and under that we find That David Smith and Alex Adams hold A million dollars nothing more than dirt. To them we leave their silver and their gold. Now comes the camera section of the news. And here we see the names of Knott and Brown. AiHara also is among the group Whose brilliant work has won it great renown. And so it goes throughout the pages full. Of England, Buker, Taylor, Spaulding, too. We see they ' ve won great praise as men of worth; For each has carried on the Blue and Blue To heights of fame and peaks of excellence. The movies pass in turn before our sight. Paul Coleman ' s practiced touch we quickly note In reading the review of latest films. Paul says that D ' Arcy really does emote In great and gorgeous style that melts the hearts Of all the fair and fickle fem ' nine fans. Irv Gray, that funny man, receives his share Of credit as the droll comedian. The radio is next. In this, of course, The men of English hold their own. The bands of Slavet, Cook, and Abramson Are famous as the ones of sweetest tone. Dave Hunter reads his poems on the air And makes the critics all exclaim in awe, In beauty and in grace, he has no peer. His lines are famous and without a flaw. Our politicians, too, are ether-known. Brave Lopez, hcihl with right good glee. And opposite we find again as e ' er The masses ' friend, the bosses ' foe — Kripke. Bob Field will air his views, we read, that night About the evils of a people ' s rule. A hide-bound, moneyed man is our pal. Bob. He follows but the course he set in school. Favreau, the silver-tongued, will, too, hold forth Upon the waves of air, for he debates As was his wont in far off days of yore With him who active opposition rates. As wearied we become of lighter things, We turn now to the classic music page And find that Hyman Gordon, as its scribe, Page Twelve

Reviews the composition of the year By Maestro Spector, also of our tribe Whose works arc honored by the music world. We go ahead once more, this time to art. The names of Scannell, Mechan, Drakos shine, And to the beauties of our earth their part Is added. They, in truth, to us give joy The book reviews are next to catch our glance. Bob Desmond reigns in this department vast And rates all novels, murder or romance. DePiccolellis writes with force and strength, Says Bob, and Kittredge glows with action fast. The two learned well and lost not even one Good trick they found in Record work, now past. We see that Winthrop Glasier has brought out A new and modern history just packed With salient points that he has ne ' er forgot. Yes, such he was, a veritable fount of fact. John Bush writes books on vital chemistry. The first he is in all that science claims. He heard, he saw, he worked, he learned, he writes He ' s mentioned, too, among the Nobel names The roto section beckons, and we go To see how men of English there might fare. Devine gleams forth as best dressed man in town And smiles with charm, impeccable as e ' er. Ned Erne of the candid camera fame Has never lost that magic, lightning touch And here we find examples of his art That catch the eye and make us like them much. At last wc reach the Sporting Page Whose chief, Marsh Hahn, has won great praise For skill and care in writing of the stars That shine not in the nights but in the days. Among these greats we find the names of those Who led the Blue and Blue in contests gone. The fans forget great Foxx and Gehrig, too At sight of Williams, graceful as a swan And just as powerful as both at bat. Jack Daly, Cowhig, Reddy, Barry, yes Costello, Stewart, Melaugh, Sullivan Are former All-Americans, you know But now hold forth as coaches, who all plan To find new systems and to make new finds. No longer is it called by Rockne ' s name, The Daly or the Cowhig system now. And thereby has the Double Blue reached fame. Ryan and Hall, retired athletes are, Who, after winning many honors bright, Have settled down to teach their art to those Who try to ape the coach with all their might. But many names we saw and did not note Of our classmates whose stars have shone serene In quiet skies. And yet their simple acts Of kindness have their ways of serving been. Their deeds of Honor and Achievement are Yet matched by those of service and good cheer For these are men who by their lives and works The name of English High do more endear. And now for twenty years throughout the land. The name and fame of English ne ' er has died, For glory always seemed to greet that band, Which Thirty-Seven knew and hailed with pride. John H. Crimmins Page Thirteen
