The oldest and most important of the student activities is the Student Council. This year, the Councils twenty-first, was a very successful one. llach year two boys are elected from forms two through live and three boys from form six to act as representatives. The Council elects its officers at its Hrst meeting. The president, a sixth former, presides at meetings and assemblies and acts as general head with the vice-p-resident as his assistant. The sec- retary is responsible for correspondence and records of the Councils meetings, while the treasurer has charge of the funds incorporated into the Student Activities Fund. This fund includes all extrafcur- ricular activities. This year Bill Ticltnor was elected president and Rick Hartman vice-president. Roger Bruce and Doug Rhodes were elected secretary and treasurer respectively. One of the more important ol the Councils functions is handling problems that arise in school affairs, and endeavoring to improve relations be- tween the Faculty and students. Many traditions have grown up since the ferm- ing of the Student Council. For example, each year in the last decade the Council has sponsored a School dance. This years dance, held on Febf ruary ll, was a tremendous success, and did much to further school spirit. Each fall the Council conducts a drive for the Student VVell'are Fund under the supervision of the Council treasurer. The funds collected as a result of this effort are donated in the name of the school to various charities such as the Red Cross, the Community Chest. the Paralysis Fund, and many others. This years drive proved a great success, raising 5277. the largest amount ever raised. Another major accomplishment of the Council this year was the forming of an Honor Board as the lirst step in a procedure by which the Englewood School hopes to obtain an Honor System. This has been a goal of the Headmaster for some years, and with the appointing of an Honor Board and student proctors the Council feels that a commem- orable step has been made in the advancement of the long sought after Honor System. No summary of the activities of the Student Council would be complete without mentioning the able guidance of Albert L. Metzger, who has served for sixteen years as Faculty adviser. As the school has grown over the years, so has the Student Council. It has given an increasing amount of responsibility and experience in self! government to the boys, and it has afforded them an opportunity to serve the school. , 'W
