43 if if X391 CQMMANDHNG OFFICER CAPTAI HE RY H. MAUZ IR. UNITED STATES NAVY Captain Henry H. Mauz, lr., USN, of Denver Colorado, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy on 3 june 1959. His initial assignment was to USS IOHN A. BOLE QDD-7551 where he served as First Lieutenant until june 1961. He was then assigned to Commander Destroyer Division 172, and later COMDESDIV 52, as Staff Operations Officer from 1961 to 1963. Subsequent sea tours included Operations Officer, USS BLUE QDD-7441 during the period 1965 to 1966. He was then assigned as Officer in Charge of River Patrol Division 543 and operated patrol boats in the rivers of South Vietnam until April 1967. From june 1967 to August 1969, Captain MAUZ was Commanding Officer of USS PRIME QMSO-4661. He served as Executive Officer, USS SAMPSON QDDG-10j from September 1970 to March 1972, and then as Commanding Officer USS SEMMES QDDG-18j until December 1973. While in SEMMES, he deployed with the NATO Standing Naval Force Atlantic. ln january 1974, Captain MAUZ was assigned to the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels where he served on the staff of the U.S. Ambassador to NATO until july 1976. Other significant tours ashore included the Naval Postgraduate School, where he studied Electrical Engineering, the Air Command and Staff College and the Naval War College where he was the U.S. Navy member of the Naval Command Command College, the course for senior allied naval officers. Captain MAUZ reported to ENGLAND from the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, where he served in the Strategy and Concepts Branch QOP-6035. Captain MAUZ holds the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Combat V , the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of subsequent awards, and various campaign and service medals. He is married to the former Peggy O'Neill of Fresno, California. They have four children.

Dear Shlpmates ENGLAND's 1982 deployment really started ln january when the ship left San Diego for the slx week exercise READIEX 2 82 Then after a month of preparation for overseas movement KPOMJ we left again on 7 Aprll not to return untll October In many respects It was a dlfflcult deployment Liberty ports were few and far between and our at sea time was concentrated In the Indian Ocean and North Arabian Sea durlng the heart of the Summer Monsoon And yet despite these klnds of hardships the deployment has been an unqualified success We can all look back on thus deployment wlth pride and a sense of achievement We made every commitment with the best looking and best runnlng englneerlng plant around Our combat systems established new records for performance and rellab1llty We performed well ID a varlety of warfare commander assignments and led the way In Battle Group communications Our Supply Department provlded the day ln and day out support for the crew and our equipment that made all of this possible All of this happened because ENGLAND has an outstandlng crew men who really care about their ship and thelr shlpmates There IS splrlt about this shlp going back to the orlglnal ENGLAND, that does not let us settle for second best This splrlt IS not magic but simply the result of working hard and pulling together This crulse book wlll be a reminder of what we accomplished together Whether we remaln with the shlp or move on to other things It will serve as a lasting tribute to frlendshlp and prlde Thank you for the prlvllege of serving with you idea H H MAUZ ,IR Captain U S Navy Commanding Officer .
