Class History At the conclusion of our high school years we gaze into the kaleidoscope of the past to view the varied colored patterns of our preparation for the future. Our ninth year of school begaji with new environments. Some of us went to Thaddeus Kosciuszko Junior High, while others attended Enfield High. Those of us at EHS elected Joe Bace- wicz, president; Mark Handley, vice-president; Pam Hall, sec- retary; and Karen Kiebish, treasurer. Our representatives to the Student Council were Robert Bacewicz, Debbie Bellida, Mari- anne Destro, and Sheila Matthews. The scholastic pattern of our kaleidoscope began when Doreen Mortensen won the Freshman Writing Award and Robert Zawada received the Algebra I Award. The ninth graders at Kosciuszka had the honor of naming the schools and forming the constitution. Sue Aduskevicz was the Morgan House president, while Bill Aloisa, Fred Drake, Jan Eyberse, Tom Maziarz, Janie Liro, Jane Kowalczyk, Nancy Rumore, Brian Bjorndahl, and Ruth Pomeroy represented the students. Susan Richeer designed the school emblem. Athletics belanced the design. Our combined basketball team: Bob Bacewicz, Joe Bacewicz, Pat Casper, Steve Cavaleri, Dennis Cunningham, Bob Elliott, Bill Keller, Gary Hopper, Dennis Root, Ed Sama, Chet Wasileski, Bob Zawanda, and John Znamierow- ski united the two divisions of the class. The baseball diamond enlarged the pattern with Bob Elliott, Tom Evans, Ken Kalva, Dave Kowalchuck, Mike D’Amato, Gary Hopper, Kevin Purdy, Dennis Root, Ed Sarna, Tom Skypeck, and Joe Zarcaro. The class of ’69 was together for the first time in our sopho- more year. In October, we elected Ken Samo, president; Jim Silver, vice-president; Michele LeRoy, secretary; and Sheila Lacey, treasurer. Veterans Marianne Destro, Debbie Bellida were joined by Cathy Gorman, Mike DiRosa, and Sharon Mul- len as Student Council Representatives. The first class effort was “Caberet,” a semi-formal dance organized by Pat Grenier, general chairman. The sports pattern grew when Bob Elliott, Mark Handley, and Ed Sama brought recognition to our class by playing on the Varsity football team. The junior varsity basketball team was colored by the playing of Bob Bacewicz, Steve Cavaleri, John Censki. Ken Kalva, Bill Keller, Bruce Peterson, Kevin Purdy, Ed Sama, Vin Spanillo, Chet Wasileski, Bob Zawada, and John Znamierowski. They were cheered on by JV cheer- leaders Michele LeRoy, Candy Ratches, and Linda Werner. The colors ran and blended as sophomores helped their fellow students gain financial assistance through the newly formed Enfield Scholarship Foundation by canvassing. In our junior year we lost our status as the largest class in the school but we were determined to be the strongest. To lead us to our goal we elected Mark Handley, president; Dennis Majeski, vice-president; Ann Marie Nowak, secretary; and Bill Munsell, treasurer. Mike DiRosa, Marianne Destro, Cathy Gor- man, Sharon Mullen, Bruce Peterson, and Vernon Page con- tributed to a productive year. They innovated senior parking privileges and additional representatives for each class. Our social life merged into the pattern with the junior prom. Pat Grenier was the general chairman for “Raindrops and Roses.” We presented the senior class with “For One Bright Shining Moment,” the farewell prom. Cathy Gorman was the general chairman. Our delegation to Laurel Girl’s State, SuC Aduskevicz, Mari- anne Destro, and Deborah Morse, added new color to the spec- trum of experience. Ed Waleryszak, Mark Handley, Michael DiRosa, and Bob Zawada attended Boy’s State. Scholastically, Carol Devine received the Latin I Award and Dennis Girard the American History Award. The science and math award was granted to Ken Jamrogowicz. Mike DiRosa, Sheila Carey and Bob Zawada were awarded for their good citizenship. Joe Bacewicz brought recognition to his school and class when he was named 11-Suburban-League End. Other juniors on the varsity football team were Dale Baker, Bob Bacewicz, Pat Casper, John Censki, Jeff Casarella, Bob Egan, Bob Elliot, Tom Evans, Mark Handley, Mark Keller, Ed Sarna, Niles Steb- bins, Rex Ward well and Joe Zarcaro. The cheer-leadeers: Pat Grenier, Midge Houff, Michele LeRoy, Lynn Dumond, and Linda Werner cheered the soccer teajn on to victory. Juniors on the team were Mike DiRosa, James Cote, Jeff FitzGerald, Gary Hopper, Bill Munsell, Bill O’Brien, Bruce Peterson, Lee Scher- merhom, Len Shortz, and Mark Spencer. The basketball team added shades of color to the sports pat- tern with Bob Bacewicz, Joe Bacewicz, Steve Cavaleri, Dennis Cunningham, Ken Kalva, Kevin Purdy, Vin Spanilo, Chet Wasileski and Bob Zawada. A new dimension was added with the wrestling team. Juniors on the team were Scott Bain, Bob Bouchard, Ted Jenkins, and Mark Handley. Many juniors worked to make the dramatics production “The King and I” a success. Debbie Morse, student director, was the recipient of the Howard Lavalette Award. Lana Tamashaitis, head choreographer, and Andy Malloy, stage manager, added to a full production. Juniors Alan Albetski and Alan Torrant were accepted as members of the All-Connecticut-State Band. Bob and Joe Bacewicz, grand marshals, led the graduating seniors to the closing of the 1968 year. The pattern reopened in our final and most important year. We elected Mike DiRosa, president; Bruce Peterson, vice- president; Ann Marie Nowak, secretary and Sheila Lacey, treasurer. Our representatives were: Marianne Destro, Tom Foley, Cathy Gorman, Tom Holmes, Marge Mistretta, Sharon Mullen, Jane Porcello, Robert Bacewicz and Joseph Bacewicz. Our class sponsored the concession stands at the football games, a paper drive, a dance, and the senior prom “Yuletide Cotillion.” The football team led by the seniors Jeff Casarella, John Genski, Pat Casper, Bob Bacewicz, Joe Bacewicz, Alan Davis, Bob Egan, Tom Evans, Bob Elliott, John Flanagan, Mark Kel- ler, Gerald Gumkowski, Rex Wardwell, and Niles Stebbins brought our school the championship. The seniors on the soccer team were: Jeff Fitzgerald, Bruce Peterson, Len Shortz, Mike DiRosa, Bill O’Brian, Gary Hopper, Ken Sawicki, Bill Munsell, Lee Schermerhom, Donald O’Connor, and Scott Bain. Our life at Enfield High has been brief but full. The Kaleido- scope has blended and folded to bring our patterns into focus. The knowledge we have gained, the interests we have acquired, and the friends we have made will stay with us as we leave Enfield, each to his own destiny. 25
