“And then my sons. Tommy and Mike .. We developed inquiring individualistic minds Social Studies The Enfield High School Social Studies Department has made great strides in the creation and development of a dynamic and personal social studies program for the students. It is a program which does not end in the classroom. Rather, it is expanded into the realm of individual research and inquiry. The inducement for this extra-curricular activity that results from the stim- ulating clasess, is heightened further by the excellent facilities of the Social Studies Lab. It includes nearly all forms of media: audio, visual, and research aids. Yet, the purpose of the Social Studies Department goes beyond even the classroom and lab. Problems of Democracy and Modern World Problems begin to give America’s future leaders a sound foundation for active citizenship and an awareness of the world which they soon will encounter. The Enfield High Social Studies Department has suc- ceeded in achieving a unity, where these diverse and seemingly incongruous fragments, like mosaic pieces, all fall into a general pattern, the pattern we call humanity. English English is the fundamental study in which we learn to think and communicate accurately and interestingly. Our basic knowledge of English will enable us to further our learning after our formal education is completed. This year, we gained a comprehensive identity with the English language through diverse teaching techniques. Especially as seniors, the opportunity to be heard and to voice our feelings was evident. Through our many and varied opinions has come a clearer, a better focus of the future. 10 ‘I suppose you could do better? The school library offers the student reading material needed for the English courses.

Mathematics The Mathematics Department at Enfield High offers a diversified curriculum, which is geared to the demands of academic and business students alike. While the academic student is stimulated by such challenging courses as Algebra, Geometry, and Anal- ysis, the business student is aroused by practical mathematics. Business mathematics gives the student a strong background in the fundamentals of book- keeping and clerical practices. The accelerated math student is given the oppor- tunity to explore the fundamentals of Calculus, and thereby obtain a deeper understanding of higher mathematics. The Enfield High School Math Department feels that mathematics, with its basis of logical reasoning, can never be over-emphasized. while still calculating logically in search of solutions 12 Life is a gamble
