HOME ECONOMICS Home Economics is a course which plays an important role in preparing young girls to become efficient homemakers. The skills and techniques of planning meals, food preparation and child care are some of the areas covered in the course. One branch of the Home Economics course, Home and Family, is set aside especially for seniors. Here special emphasis is placed on child development and preparation for marriage. The department is developing a resource library of books and films for individual research into special problems pertaining to Home Economics. HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT. DRIVER EDUCATION Driver Education, a half-credit course, is one of the most popular offered at Enfield High. It prepares students for their Connecticut driver’s license examination, and teaches them driving techniques. Under the direction of Mr. Staszko, these goals are accomplished through a three-phase program consisting of formal class instruction, practice in driver training cars, and on the road driving experience. This year Mr. Ricci, after an absence of several years, has returned to teach in this department. Students look on as Mrs. Gaimari demonstrates sewing techniques. developed practical skills, DRIVER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. Mr. Peter Staszko, Department Head, and Mr. John Lyons. SCIENCE The Science Department of Enfield High School keeps pace with the rapidly changing world. Mod- ern laboratory and classroom facilities aid the stu- dent in the quest for truth, and help him achieve a sound background in the basics of science. A new course offered this year to advanced seniors is a study of biochemistry. Programs in General Science, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry compose the di- versified science curriculum. Mrs. Tufo demonstrates scientific principles in her Chem- istry class. Mr. Keaney observes the progress of his Biochemistry class. 15

Mr. Finman and students check finished sculptures. Creating an interest in the cultural aspects of modern life and thus forming more complete individuals is the prime objective of the Art Department. The students work in such diverse areas as oils, sculptures, water colors, pastels, and collages. A new facet of the course, introduced this year, is the study of three dimensional figures which are known as optical designs. The instructors show the students how to effectively apply the fundamentals of art in a most expressive manner. ART DEPARTMENT. Mr. Robert Foley and Mr. Richard Finman. ART appreciated the arts. MUSIC DEPARTMENT. Mr. Leonard DeMaio and Mr. Joseph Giangrasso. MUSIC With the fine guidance of Mr. Leonard DeMaio and Mr. Joseph Giangrasso, students of Enfield High School learn to appreciate the beauty of music. A variety of courses are of- fered in the vocal and instrumental fields. These studies are geared to challenge the professional as well as the amateur student. An excellent marching band is the pride of Enfield High, and the jazz and concert bands are often called upon ment is now planning a new percussion ensemble band to add to our varied music curriculum.
