Yearbook Editors Preface Light may have many different effects. Light can be beneficial or harmful, reward- ing or punitive, pure or corrupted. But no matter what form it is in, light is man- datory. As we entered Enfield High School for the first time the shadows we cast were awkward and stumbling. This was the start of four years of great physical and mental growth. At times we may have groped and stumbled in the dark but there was always an interested teacher or administrator ready to give us guidance and understanding. Well equipped laboratories and modern classroom facilities aided us. We were offered well-rounded academic, business, academic-vocational and vocational programs. Completing these programs were our many extra-curricular activities and clubs. The true value of the light of knowledge is determined by how we apply it. We must use this light to brighten the various roads ahead of us in life. If we allow this lamp to be wasted by not using its light then we are allowing our minds to be wasted by not using its knowledge. The intensity of our flame of knowledge has been increasing each year of our education. It is up to us to obtain as much of this brilliance as our minds are capable of grasping. There is only one way we can fail in our decision, that would be if we fail to apply what we have learned to our futures. Linda Porcello, Editor in Chief

BENJAMIN REVERUZZI In Appreciation The fruits of twenty-nine years of dedicated community service performed in a most unobstrusive manner has been our legacy from Mr. Reveruzzi. Few people are aware of the enormous amount of work entailed in the formulation of educational policy in the educational system of this community. When Mr. Reveruzzi was first elected to the Board of Education in 1938, there were only 1,500 pupils with a staff of seventy teachers distributed among one high school, five elementary, and two rural schools. The facilities were very limited, the employees’ salaries were very low, and the equipment was scant. Recognizing those limitations for a good educational program, Mr. Reveruzzi worked unceasingly for improvement in these areas. Serving as a member of the Finance Committee of the Board of Education for twenty years and as Secretary for six, Mr. Reveruzzi was instrumental in gaining larger appropria- tions, and for the carrying out of the policies of the Board to the extent that we have a system second to none in this state. Among other committees on which he served were the High School Site, the Enfield High School Building, the Hazardville Memo- rial School, and the Suffield Vocational Agricultural Advisory. Serving on the Com- mittes entailed hundreds of hours of meetings with hundreds of people to obtain the lust for the taxpayers’ dollars. Of the results of his personal efforts we can be justi- fiably proud and most appreciative. The record of Mr. Reveruzzi’s service and the results of his contribution are a testimonial of his superb civic interest. We, who have been the beneficiaries of his twenty-nine years of dedication to young people, thank and salute you, Mr. Ben Reveruzzi. 4
