SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT Enfield High’s program of social studies provides the student with a varied background. Courses include Geography, World Civilization, Civics World Problems, Social Problems, Economics, and American History. Through the efforts of the social studies department, the student becomes more aware of the world around him, its problems and its challenges, and is therefore better able to prepare for his role as an informed citizen. ENGLISH DEPARTMENT The English Department, dedicated to teach- ing the fundamentals of our language and ex- panding our literary culture, has always strived to meet the needs of each student. Business English for juniors was initiated this year to fulfill the special needs of the business student. Academic and General English are also offered to the students. Active participation on the part of both student and teacher broaden our intellectual integrity, preparing all of us for the bright future ahead. we explored a world in literature9 12 Students gain experience in the art of speech.

International magazines aid the student in gaining an increased knowledge of foreign cultures. tread the path of universal understanding FOREIGN LANGUAGE Aided by the highly advanced and specialized foreign language laboratory, the language department enables the student to discover the important and fascinating world of foreign languages. In a technological society where under- standing and communications must go hand in hand, a firm background in linguistics is a major step in improving our relationship with different cultures. Mrs. Myott instructs students in the use of the language laboratory. 14
