A freshman may be learning that x” is un- known (Algebra I) or he may find his problerti involves a graph with x” accompanied by unknown y” (Algebra II). The mathematician then proceeds to geometry where he learns of triangles, axioms and postulates. The last step is Math IV consisting of the slide rule, functions, and graphs. But those mathe- matically inclined will be taking Math V, working on calculus in their senior year. Math IV students finding functions of angles. f Students are offered a wide variety of subjects in the field of social studies. Geography, a survey of all the countries in the world is usually fol- lowed by a course in world civilization which encompasses a study of history from the cradle” civilizations to the present. An American history course is offered and is compulsory for Juniors. Modern World problems is offered to Seniors as an in depth” study of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Other courses are offered to students who wish to gain further knowledge in social studies such as social problems and economics. Mr. Lunetta and his students experi- menting with physical phenomena. the wonders of nature , . . The Science Department of Enfield High School is geared to the students’ abilities and interests. With the help of modern equipment and laboratories and the direction of adept teachers, many of the students acquire a firm background in the fundamentals of the sciences. As a freshman, the student can choose among physical science, general science, and earth science. The sophomore studies biology to acquaint himself with the living organisms of the earth. In the last two years of high school the student can study physics for a better understanding of energy, and chemistry for the scientific knowledge of the nature of his world. In chemistry the emphasis is on individual laboratory work to develop the student’s confidence and resourcefulness.
