FOOTBALL HIGH-LIGHTS With the coming of fall, the Eagles once more turned their thoughts to football and a new head coach was inducted into the portals of Eniferlin High School. Coach Bart. Mcl.eod again took up the reins of the coaching profession after several years absence from the game. His first year grid prospects were not the best. The orange and black had only five lettermen back from a team that had lost five and won only two games the year before. But with the help of Line-Coach, Marvin Burroughs, he took the scrappy lot that reported for practice every afternoon and rounded them into a football machine which triumphed in four battles and dropped three. This eleven was also the darkhorse of the South- east Conference being beaten M-7 by LaMoure for the conference title. Making up the backbone of this team were the five lettermen. Captain Don Moriarty, Ernie Nelson. Don Hetland, Wes Peterson and Don McArthur. Other letterwinners, whose progress during the year made a mediocre season into a great one included: Bob wentlund, Charles Berglund, Howard Hulet, Don Froeber, Jim Nord, Don Carey, Stan Ford, Tom Weis, Bob Monroe, Denny Lutness, and Marv Shelley, and Dick Johanneson, manager. Boys who stayed out the entire year, but failed to gain letters were: LeRoy Sly, Robert Huber, Bob Aspelund, Ronny Utke, Kenneth Sandvig and Gerald Geek. Don McArthur was unanimously elected by his fellow teammates to captain them in their 1942 football season.
