Sevent -Five Years of Educational Service ,NQSQWSTQTE K .. Q09 Els LU' qThe seventy-fifth anniversary of the establishing of the Kansas State Teachers College was celebrated March 18 and 19, l938, with an educators' conference. Simultaneously, the college and the edu- cators of the country recognized the twenty-five years of service of Thomas W. Butcher as president of the college. qMost of the prominent educators in Kansas were present to take part in the two-day celebration, and several educa- tors from outside the state participated in the various programs. QA feature pro- gram of the event was the historical pageant presented under the direction of the Speech Department in Albert Taylor Hall. Here was presented the seventy- fivc years of educational service of the college, as interpreted by actors, dancers, and narrators. One of the largest crowds ever to assemble in Albert Taylor Hall saw the pageant. qScores of nationally known educators from every section of the country, from almost every college and university in the land, sent letters to the college expressing their regard for the college and President Butcher.

The picture in the cen- ter is from the first photo- graph ever taken of the main building. The building used in 1888 was the same as in 1880, with an additional wing on the west side. An auditor- ium, known as the first Albert Taylor Hall, was later added to the building on the east side. It stood where the Sunken Garden now is. 4
