psf . . ....-Y x. l ' g A e-ease? wfwl --'ef if l 'V 7 The Ancient Seniors It was a small green Freshman and A Senior proud stopped he, Who paused, and looked, and wondered What can you want of me? The Freshman shook and shivered while He contemplated flight. He'd never be a football star, It'd seem a rooster fight. He sputtered and he stammered but The Senior understood, He wished a tale of The School Life, For his own personal good. Ah well! ou've come to one who knows Y Our class has done it all, You can't expect to be so great, . Your plans, perhaps, will fall. Yes we were once green Freshmen but With Selleck at our head, H An education fine sought weg ,. We wished to be well read. 1 We scratched our heads for Latin verbs, A struggle hard had weg 4 For in our school the 'flu' germ flew As big as any bee. And then as Sophomores we claimed To be a plucky group, We had the pep, the grit, the rep, In fact, 'We were the Soup! Thanksgiving, we ate pumpkin pie, A High did our spirits soarg - And all excited Winnie pushed Her hand through a big glass door. On Christmas Eve old Santa called And brought along a tree, . Nice presents then I gave to him And he gave one to me. Ahl then we were the Juniors Proud The teachers, our old friends. Say! Wallace passed in History, I-Ie's making fine amends. One afternoon the girls had tea Their mothers did invite. And then another germ flew in- Bad cases were in sight. The school went for a Shakespeare hike And Kenneth took his Ford, When e'er he stopped a can he placed Below, tied to a cord. For gasoline poured out in streams, A saving head had he. But Em-Hi field day we woke up And stopped the Seniors' spree. The Senior flag we tore it down They could not fly it high. And in the sports, we showed them all The bacon we could fry. Then wise and dignified we took Our title, that of 'Senior.' You'd know us here, in France, in Heav'n By our sincere demeanor. Some sizzling meat in glowing flames, ' The shadows were our hosts, Whoever dreamed of such rare sport As Seniors on steak roasts. Toasters, toasters everywhere And yet no. toast to eatg But with Titus and his finger bowl Our banquet was complete. And now Commencement Days are, o'er, The end at last is hereg We stand with parchments in our hands And know no worldy fear. We thought that 'twould be fine to leave But now-it's not so swell, A longing sigh goes with the words We bid you fond farewell. -WILMA GOODALL. .3- -.,,.
