Emphasis '74 The EMPHASIS '74 symposium weekend, April 5, 6, and 7, 1974, was the culmination of two years of study and involvement incorporating speakers, films, debates and additions to the academic curriculum. Open discussions, library resources and drama were also incorporated. This the fifth of the biennial student initiated sym- posia, was focused on the theme of Porsonhood-Scxism. Examination and research involved lectures by Ann F. Scott and Rosemary Ruether (sponsored by Rcl. and Phil. Dept.); films such as Women in Love,” films on alternative lifestyles, films on biological and social implications; a presentation by the International Club on the international scope of Person- hood-Sexism; a debate on the Equal Rights Amendment; and curriculum revisions and additions. IflKi FRANCES T. FARENTHOLD, an attorney on the Texas Bar Association, current Chairperson of the National Women’s Politi- cal Caucus, Vice-Chairperson of the National Coalition for Human Needs and Budget Priorities, and Who’s Who of Ameri- can Women, spoke to the college on organizational change and legal and social problems. She was the first woman in the U.S. to have her name placed in nomination for the Vice-President of the United States. ELIZABETH JANEWAY, author of Man's World— Woman Place, is a Berkeley Fellow at Yale, a member of the internation writers’ organization of The Civil Liberties Journal and the Execute Woman. During EMPHASIS weekend she shared her ideas on at tude changes that arc necessary to facilitate role change.
