EMORY AND HENRY — 0 EASTERN CAROLINA — 12 Although there was no score un- til the fourth quarter, Emory dropped their first competition of the ’58 season in a hard fought game. The fourth quarter brought the fatalistic action, Eastern Carolina recovered two Emory fumbles and scored on both counts. The Emory line performed a fine manner for this season action. Jim Raines was the spark in the back- ficld, Charlie Phillips and Bill Hal- loway were also outstanding in their play. EMORY AND HENRY — 39 CONCORD — 0 The Wasps scored 32 points in the first half of the “Rotary Bowl” game and went on to topple Con- cord 39—0. Every’ uniformed Wasp saw action at sometime during the slaughter. Although Concord fumbled early in the game due to the rainy weather Emory showed no damp- ness of spirit as they turned the fumble into a Wasp touchdown. Jim Raines carried the pigskin across from Concord’s 34 yard line on a quarterback “keep”. Raines, Dewey O’Connor, and Halloway thus paved the way for the third Wasp touchdown. The scoring ended until the last quarter Emory recovered another Concord fumble. Freshman Ronnie Odum ran 17 yards for the final touchdown. EMORY AND HENRY — 0 GUILFORD — 14 Guilford dominated their home- coming tilt and defeated the Wasps, 14—0. Daryl Allen, Guilford’s center, obviously had his forte as he inter- cepted passes and made tackles. Emory was unable to block a Guilford drive in the first quarter when the Quakers took an early 6—0 lead. During the second quarter Guil- ford drove 67 yards and thus brought the score up to 12—0. A Quaker fullback, Les Parker plunged over from the two yard line for the touchdown. A running play added an extra two pointer. Emory managed to net only a total of 99 yards in the contest.
