IVIAN reflects 74 school year through dedicated students ' efforts Through the efforts of a small group of dedicated students, the IVIAN was created with the hope that it would accurately reflect the 1973-74 school year through the student ' s eyes. Even though there were two new advisors and a rela- tively new staff, all felt the finished book was a success. Several new ideas were incor- porated into this year ' s IVIAN, such as smaller margins and a change in headline style. A fold-out was added to the opening section, the only drawback being that 1,650 of them came separately and had to be pasted in by hand. A big job was minimized when everyone pitched in, in order to get the IVIAN de- livered on time. Fund-raising projects included yearbook and underclass picture sales, plus two dances. At the Pic Parade underclassmen could ob- tain and exchange pictures, and the John Henry Hop offered students a chance to have IVIAN ' s auto- graphed by friends. IVIAN Editor Karen O ' Connor and Assistant Editor Brenda Hagenmaier attended the Indiana High School Journalism Institute summer work- shop at I.U. Karen said, I learned many useful things there that I might otherwise not have known. Both agreed that it was a worthwhile two weeks. Photographers worked diligently, taking and developing pictures. It was not unusual to find the entire staff spending several weekends and vacation time at school, working to meet a deadline or putting finish- ing touches on what was hoped to be an interesting and attractive IVIAN. lvian 23

w l w 25 IVIAN years stir memories, bring nostalgia In 1949 the Manual publications staff chose the name IVIAN for its yearbook. The name stuck and IVIANS have annually rolled off the presses since then, recording the events, accomplishments, emo- tions, and hopes of Manualities through the years. This year the IVIAN celebrates its 25th anniversary and silver an- niversaries are a time for sentimen- tal reminiscing. A look at that first IVIAN reveals that Manual today has many ties with that Manual of yesteryear. It also dramatically illu- strates some of the changes which have occurred in the Redskin life- style. Happy anniversary IVIAN! %-, 24 Then and Nov
